  • The X10 Powerflash Interface allows low voltage contact closure to trigger an X10 command, allowing you to control lights, appliances, or group scenes. The Powerflash is a simple plug-in unit with input terminals that hardwire to a low-voltage device or contact closure sensor. When contact closure is sensed by the Powerflash Interface, it sends an X10 signal. In Mode 1, when contact closure is sensed, it will send an ALL LIGHTS ON signal to switches and lamp modules; additionally, it will send an ON signal to any device with the same House Code and Unit Code (address) such as A2. In Mode 2, when contact closure is sensed, it will send a flashing ALL LIGHTS ON/ALL APPLIANCES OFF command. In Mode 3, when contact closure is sensed, the Powerflash Interface will send an ON command to X10 devices with the same House Code and Unit Code (address) such as A2. When set to Input Mode A, a low voltage trigger (1-18 Volts) can be used to activate the interface; when set to Input Mode B, contact closure can be used to activate the interface. To create the opposite action of using X10 to control low-voltage devices such as sprinkler valves, door strikes, garage door openers, and thermostats, consider using an X10 Universal Module.

If you have an INSTEON home automation network, the I/O Linc - INSTEON Low Voltage / Contact Closure Interface will combine the functionality of the X10 Universal Module and Powerflash Interface, allowing you to monitor and/or control any low voltage devices.

The X10 Powerflash Interface can turn off the vacuum when the doorbell rings and sends a signal when the garage door opens. The device sends an X10 signal in response to a motion detector, photocell, magnetic window switch, or virtually any device with output. The module can be activated by a low voltage (6-18VDC) or a dry contact (no voltage) switch closure. Once activated the module sends an X10 signal. The Powerflash module becomes deactivated when the low voltage is removed or the dry contact switch is opened.

You can even use the X10 Powerflash Interface as a burglar alarm interface. Simply wire the output from your existing security system to this module and set the module to Mode 2. If your alarm trips, the PowerFlash Interface can have indoor and outdoor X10 controlled lights flash, scaring off intruders, and making your house easily noticeable.

Mode 1: All Lights On, 1 Appliance ON/OFF
Mode 2: Flashing All Lights On/Off
Mode 3: On/Off For One Unit Code Only

For easy addressing, insert an X10 Code Clicker (sold separately) into the dial wheel.

Important Note: Beware of older units and discontinued units (usually labeled Burglar Alarm Interface) sold by some companies, which do not have the Mode 3 features listed here and will not be suitable for many of the projects we describe.

High Failure Rate Review by Robert
    High Failure Rate

The PowerFlash is a really handy module to have. I cannot think of an adequate replacement device.

Unfortunately, I had four PowerFlash modules die on me in the last three years. I am not buying any more.

The Insteon I/O Link can be used with an external relay for my applications. But it is extra work, cost, and can be unsightly.

Bought this to replace a 20 year old unit that I had. Works perfect for turning on my garage lights when the garage door goes up.

We bought these units as spares for our drive way alert and yard light alarms. We simply cannot live without them. The units sent were exactly what we needed.
