  • No neutral wire in your home? No problem

If you are interested in lighting control for your home but do not have neutral wires, the Insteon 2-wire dimmer is your solution. This dimmer installs like a traditional switch and can dim incandescent or halogen bulbs up to 600 Watts. Set preset on-levels, on/off fade speeds, and of course control the dimmer remotely from any Insteon keypad, mini remote, or sensor. Use with the Insteon Hub and gain control from your Android or iOS device, set schedules, manage dimmer settings, and control it using your voice from any Amazon Echo or Alexa-enabled device.

Please note that while most Insteon devices are dual-band (communicate via powerline and radio simultaneously), the 2-Wire Dimmer uses radio (RF) only.

    Remote Control

Insteon wall switches can be remotely controlled from Insteon keypads, mini remotes, sensors and can also be controlled from your smartphone when used with the Insteon Hub.

One of the most powerful features of Insteon switches, Scenes let you control multiple devices simultaneously with a single tap. Brighten all of the lights in an entire room with a tap-and-hold or create infinite virtual multi-way switches.

No wall switch is more customizable. Change the paddle color to suit your décor needs. Swap out the LED light pipe for personalized colors. You can even custom-etch text onto the switch paddles for ease-of-use in multi-gang switch boxes.

    Control on Apple Watch

With the Insteon App on Apple Watch, control of your Insteon Wall Switch is never out of reach. Pick from one of four presets for Dimmer Switches.

    Remote control with Insteon sensors

Your Insteon Wall Switch can do so much more when given access to the family of Insteon sensors. With a few taps of the set button or a moment's time with your smartphone, you can configure sensors throughout your home to automatically turn on (or off) the lights based on a variety of different actions.

There are some rooms in your home that, no matter what time of day, you always end up turning on the lights: Pantries, closets, hallways, etc. With an Insteon Wall Switch and an Open/Close Sensor (or Hidden Door Sensor), you will never need to turn the light on again. And better yet, you'll never need to remember to turn it off.

I've never been able to get this to work reliably with my ISY. I have other RF only devices motion detectors that work flawlessly. I currently use a ISY controller, but even when I had my SmartLinc, I always had communication issues with this device. Disappointed as it seems like it would otherwise be a perfect solution.

    Review of 2474DLAL

My house has several 3-way ceiling light circuits without white neutral wires in the switch boxes. I purchased 2 switchlinc 2-wire dimmers for the 3-way ciruit in my hall. For some reason, I thought maybe there was an undocumented feature that would make these dimmers work in my 3-way circuit even though the documentation says they are not 3-way compatible. I was wrong. I installed the first dimmer properly using the load wire and it worked fine. I installed the second dimmer with the load wire unconnected and capped off. Obviously, the second dimmer did not work because, as I found out later, the 2-wire switchlinc steals a little current through the load to power its electronics. I had to run a 14/3 wire to the second box, which I was trying to avoid doing, and purchase a normal switchlinc dimmer for it. And because it steals current through the load, the load MUST be an incandescent bulb. Otherwise, the dimmer will not function and the LED's on the switch will blink in sequence from bottom to top. These switchlinc 2-wire dimmers have limitations, but because they are functioning perfectly where I ended up installing them and the limitations are clearly documented, I'm giving them a high rating.
