  • Smartenit's INSTEON-compatible EZIO 4 Input/2 Output Relay Controller (EZIO2x4) can be used to monitor and control low voltage devices such as contact closures, outdoor lights, appliance relays and alarm systems in your INSTEON/X10 home automation network. The Controller allows virtually any device connected to its inputs to send INSTEON signals. Connect a garage door contact closure to the device and never enter a dark house again. The Controller will activate an INSTEON lighting scene to welcome you home whenever the garage door opens. In addition to lighting control, there are a myriad of conveniences the Controller can provide in your INSTEON network. Have a doorbell ring flash all the lights in your house so you won't miss any important visitors or package deliveries or have a motion detector notify your security system of intruders. The possibilities are endless.

While basic functions can be programmed manually, advanced functionality can be programmed with the EZSrve, central automation controller. If you already have a central automation controller or a software package for your INSTEON network that doesn't have the correct parameters to program the advanced functionality of this device, you can download the free Smartenit Utility Suite which works in conjunction with an INSTEON Powerlinc Modem (2412U, 2413U or 2413S). If you need PC-free operation for simple timers, the Smartenit Utility Suite also interfaces with the INSTEON Powerlinc Controller.

With four inputs, you can monitor external events, such as a garage door contact closures and temperature sensors. The 2 dry-contact relay outputs allow you to send out preprogrammed INSTEON group commands to any device in your INSTEON network or any device connected to the unit's outputs used to control low voltage 120 Volt AC (up to 0.5 Amps) or 12 Volt DC loads, such as furnace heaters, chimes and more. The device also acts as a repeater of powerline INSTEON signals.

    Smart Drapes
Want to save energy by having your blinds work for you? Use a temperature sensor with your EZIO2X4 so that you can send signals when a specific temperature is reached. Have the Controller lower your motorized drapes and turn on the air conditioner when the thermostat hits 75 degrees. Stay cool without moving a finger.

    Hearing Impaired
Use the EZIO2X4 to send different kinds of signals, like flashing lights, to make sure you know what's happening in your home. Whether you are in a location in your home that is far from the doorbell or are hearing impaired, have the IO Controller flash your lights whenever the doorbell rings so you won't miss any important visitors or package deliveries.

    INSTEON Compatible
The EZIO2X4 Controller is fully INSTEON compatible. INSTEON is a powerful home-control networking technology. INSTEON messages are transmitted throughout your home both wirelessly and through the home's existing wiring. All INSTEON messages are confirmed and repeated by INSTEON devices in the network, contributing to the outstanding reliability and performance of INSTEON products.

    X-10 compatibility
The EZIO2X4 also works with legacy X10 products. If you have an existing X10 network, the Controller works with your X10 products and provides an upgrade path to an INSTEON network.

    Pretty cool Review by Newbully
    Pretty cool

I bought the module to be used with ISY994 and so I does. I have one of the four relays come on for one second to simulate the press of a button such as on Fully Standing desk. There are four memorized settings and so in the morning when I get in it is about full height where I work. It goes lower at 7 pm where my desk mount IP camera can survey the surroundings. I can access the ISY by my phone as well of course and thus can change my desk height as long as I have some connection. Pretty cool.

These dont last Review by JJ
    These dont last

I installed 4 of these relays and all of them went bad after two years. I made the error in going Insteon so I am stuck replacing them with the same.

Works as designed, needs better wiring interface Review by JimR
Works as designed, needs better wiring interface

I have been using this EZIO2x4 for over a year and I have had no problems with it. I let my ISY 994i control and remember all functions so power outages have not been a problem. The voltage level inputs (2) are very sensitive and must be properly terminated with a pull up resistor or grounded at all times to avoid false triggers. The Opto-isolated inputs can be left open-circuit without problems.

The physical input to the device could use some update. While the screw terminals do allow a broad range of wire sizes to be terminated, it is cumbersome to work with and one has to be very careful removing the connector in order to not put stress on the interface with the body of the device. A short piece of flexible cable with a 12 pin round or 3x4 rectangular connector would be a better choice.

I am satisfied enough with the device that I am going to purchase another one to expand my control capabilities.

My purpose for buying these (2) modules was to have them work as ISY-994I sensor inputs for my security system. Using the Smartinit software, I was able to set up the sensor inputs but I never could get the unit to output a signal to my ISY-994I unit when a sensor input changed. I could get this status by querying these modules but not automatically. I tried every suggestion that was given for fixing this kind of problem (from the Smartinit forum), with these modules, but nothing fixed the problem.

It seems that you have to have the right combination of firmware and software versions to get the units to work with an ISY-994I unit and I guess that I did not have that combination. The only use that I now have for these units is the relay outputs. That feature did work without a problem.

    Extremely unreliable Review by leGadgeteur
    Extremely unreliable

I have gone thru two of these units and they have caused me to pull all my hair out. :-(

I have over 80 Insteon devices/controllers in my automated home and the EZIO2X4 is the ONLY device that gives me any trouble. It constantly looses it's settings. Even though I have a whole house surge protector AND the EXIO2X4s also plugged into a surge protector, with almost every power failure and any funky phases of the moon, these units scramble all of their controller/responder links causing a lot of work to restore them every time. They also loose their configuration settings causing the output contacts to lose their pulse settings, and the units to send "ons" when they should be sending "offs" and vice versa.

I have lived with them for several years, but only because I can't find any other product that gives me an analog input and 2 digital inputs and outputs. This is definitely a love/hate relationship for me!\

I have sent one back to the factory for a total rebuild and update and it is worse than it was before I sent it in! :-(

I love what this Controller can do but get EXTREMELY frustrated by the fact that EVERY time we have a power failure, the EZIO2X4 loses ALL of its links and thus stops working until rebuilt.

I have almost 80 Insteon switches in my home and this is the only device that consistently dies with every power failure.

I can not believe they cannot design a unit with persistent memory capabilities!

Actually the software is very bad, plus the instructions are easy to follow if you work for the company that made the device, is not clear, and not any one can do it.

Being struggleling with it for like two days.

Does what it says but difficult to set up, and the directions are not much help. For example the fact that you need resistors in various configruations with the switches is not in the "manual". If you are an electrical engineer, no problems, otherwise plan on spending a lot of time on the forums begging for help. Also, not all of the functionality works with all smarthome products - for example the isy will only pick up on and off, and not a variable signal.

I could never get this product to work. Over the course of 2 months on the Simplehomenet forum, I could net get the product to function properly. I worked with their product support team and they finally gave up. They had no clue as to why it didn't work. I am dissapointed as I spent $150 for the device and it is outside the exchange window. Do not buy products that are supported by Simplehomenet.

Works with my ISY99. I use the Insteon motion detector to trigger a zone alarm in my Elk-M1. If you have trouble with setup, factory reset it as described in the manual. Once I did that, it behaved as expected.
