Smarthome Introduces Its

Most Affordable Lamp Module Yet

Smarthome's new LampLinc Essential wins praise

for its sophisticated simplicity and low price.
Irvine, CA, January 21, 2004: You wouldn't use a chainsaw to trim the flowers. So to address home automation consumers who simply want basic control of a lamp, without all the advanced features, Smarthome, Inc. is launching the LampLinc Essential. This all-new plug-in lamp dimmer is now the entry-level version of Smarthome's widely-popular line of LampLinc lamp modules. With a retail price of $12.99, it's also the company's most affordable LampLinc lamp module to date.     "Offering consumers a great value for their money was our primary goal when designing the LampLinc Essential," says Joe Dada, CEO of Smarthome, Inc. "By including only the most essential lamp module features, home automation fans have the option of not paying for features they don't need or seldom use."     LampLinc Essential, which operates on the X10 protocol, plugs into any outlet. Users simply plug the lamp into the module, set the address with any X10 transmitter, and installation is complete. LampLinc Essential offers basic on/off control, as well as remote dimming via any X10 transmitter. Its scaled-down features make it ideal for automating lamps in rooms you don't use as often.      "Fundamentally, the LampLinc Essential will do everything traditional X10 lamp modules do," adds Dan Cregg, vice president of engineering for Smarthome. "Yet it still offers some of the great features our LampLinc plug-in dimmers are known for, including electronically-set addressing and the ability to turn on to the previously-set dim level."      The LampLinc Essential is based on X10, the de facto standard in connecting automation devices in homes and businesses. X10 products send small data sequences containing information, including a product address and an action to perform, from a transmitter, such as a light switch, to a receiver, such as a lamp module, via the home's existing electrical wiring. Products utilizing X10 technology are popular in part because they are affordable, simple to install and do not require additional wiring.     Available now from Smarthome, the LampLinc Essential retails for only $12.99.
