The product work properly and as espected. The only problem I got is the USB cable that did not work. I had to buy a new one in order to connect with my computer. I'm pleased with the product.

I got this to replace an older powerlinc. I have all older X10 modules and use the power linc to keep a random lighting pattern on and to cut off certain lights during peak load pricing. Came right up, but had to use the more limited timer software, but hey the software was free!

I have been using the 2414U since Nov 2008. I program my rather simple automation requirements via Indigo and upload to the 2414U so my computer doesn't have to run 24/7. The product controls both Insteon and X10 modules has been working well these 4 years. Today I find out that Smarthome has discontinued the 2414U and more importantly, the Insteon devices I just purchased yesterday will not work with the 2414U. They will be dead-on-arrival! Why would Smarthome choose to obsolete this nice device? My guess is that they want to FORCE the adoption of their new $130 Insteon Hub. This stinks of a decision from the Marketing Department. BE WARNED, DON'T PURCHASE THIS DEVICE. IT WILL NOT WORK WITH NEWER INSTEON EQUIPMENT. I guess I'm going to have to start all over with a competing technology offered by a company that doesn't choose to abuse their customers this way. I rate the 2414U 5 stars. However based on this treatment from Smarthome, I suggest you spend your money elsewhere.

I bought this product a few years back to run an Insteon network. The basic software was free with the unit, the more advanced software cost extra.
Since I installed the Insteon five years ago most of the switches have failed. I've replaced them with conventional rheostats/dimmers.
I wanted to use this device to set up a timer on the few lights I have setup with Insteon, but there doesn't seem to be any supported software unless I want to spend $140?!
    Poor documentation, poor support.
Smarthome and Insteon are a racket to get you into paying $60+ every five years to replace their crappy products and upgrade to new crappy products.

I have tried a number of USB PC interfaces, from Smarthome and elsewhere, in a 1960's home (with 200 amp copper wiring) and this is the only one that produced signals strong enough to turn on my lights. Even with a Leviton signal bridge across the line at the main panel! But, the interface is a bit elementary feeling and I wish it had variable event timing like the USB controllers and software that were available before Windows Vista and 7.
