Flex Your Power Campaign
Smarthome has joined the Flex Your Power energy efficiency campaign to help get the word out about simple steps that you can take to help save energy, money and the environment. Flex Your Power is California's statewide energy efficiency marketing and outreach campaign. Flex Your Power is a partnership of California's utilities, residents, businesses, institutions, government agencies and nonprofit organizations working to save energy.
Smarthome offers a variety of lighting and thermostat control products; dimmers, timers and sensors; fluorescents and LEDs; and other products that homeowners can purchase to begin saving on energy costs today.
Did You Know?
- In California, lighting accounts for approximately 28% of home electricity use
- The average household could cut a third - or even half - of its current energy bill by switching to energy-efficient appliances, equipment and lighting, which use less energy than standard products
- An energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) uses at least 66% less energy than standard incandescent bulbs for the same lighting level!
What Can You Do?
1. Adjust Thermostat
Install a programmable thermostat that lets you set your air cooling to 78 degrees F and cut cooling costs 15 to 25% (your actual cost savings will depend on climate, home insulation, and utility). Smarthome's programmable thermostats offer climate control for the home for more efficient use and lower energy bills. These flexible thermostats also let you program custom schedules for each day of the week - a perfect choice for anybody with a varying schedule. 2. Control Lights
Households typically spend 22% of their annual energy bill on lighting. Cut your lighting costs by simply turning off lights when you don't need them with automatic timers and controls. An automatic timer controls when and how long a light stays on. Dimmers allow you to adjust the intensity of light in a room manually. Because most lights use less electricity at lower settings, you don't need to pay for more light than you need. With Insteon technology, switches can be programmed so that lights throughout the home can be turned on and off with the touch of a single button. Click here to see our lighting control products.
3. Replace Incandescent Light Bulbs
Energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) produce the same amount of light as incandescent bulbs, but they use up to 66% less energy. CFLs combine the efficiency of fluorescent lighting with the convenience and popularity of incandescent bulbs. You can save up to $35 annually simply by replacing bulbs with CFLs and low-energy LEDs. 4. Flex Your Power
The best way for you to Flex Your Power is to be informed. Want to know how much energy your appliances are using and how much it costs? The Watt's Up Meter measures the voltage and determines what it costs to run each appliance.
You'll notice that the X10 Telephone Responder has some buttons under the main panel, allowing it to double as a mini controller. These buttons will not only give you manual control of the lights, they also allow you to program the X10 address for each dimmer.
