The idea behind each smart home automation ecosystem is to control many devices, often using various protocols (or compatibilities, such as Insteon, Z-Wave, ZigBee, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.) from one solution. For example, you may want to use Insteon switches for lighting control, a Nest thermostat for HVAC control, an iRobot vacuum to clean your home, and an August lock to secure your front door. Each of these systems has their own app for remote control. However, if you want to simplify that, and add voice control, then using an Amazon Alexa device (as an example) will be the solution for you. Take a look at each of the ecosystems below to get an idea of what the ecosystem does, and then take a look at the corresponding brands (and subsequent products) to see which ecosystem fits your needs best.
