  • What's Included
  • Infrared (IR) remote controls have limited range and generally only work in the same room as the audio/video (A/V) component it controls as line of site is needed for communication to occur. The IR to Radio Frequency (RF) to IR Remote Control Range Extender Kit, uses an internal transmitter to converts your remote's IR signal into a RF signal, giving you the ability to control your components up to 100 feet away, through walls, floors, doors, and windows. Simply slide one of the rechargeable batteries into the transmitter and switch that out with a battery in your remote control; it works with remotes using AA or AAA batteries (AA sleeve adapter included). When the remote control is used, the IR signal is converted to RF and is sent to a small, AC-powered receiver (RF base station), which is placed facing the components you wish to control. The receiver then converts the signals back to IR and sends them to your components, all in a fraction of a second. Ideal for home theater setups that have components behind closed doors, you have the freedom to move throughout your home and control components that are out of sight. This device operates on a 418 MHz RF frequency; it is also available in a 433 MHz RF Frequency.

    How it Works

Important Note: This kit is NOT COMPATIBLE with remote controls using built-in rechargeable battery packs.

The internal RF adapter has a AAA-size transmitter and AA-size sleeve, so it can extend your existing remote control's operating range, regardless of which type of battery it requires. It will work with almost any remote control you'd like. Want to use it with more than one remote? Not a problem: add as many Extra RF Transmitters, sold separately, as you'd like. For homes where maintaining the decor is a prime concern, the system can be hidden from view by using the included Bright Eye Emitter, an unobtrusive, adhesive-backed LED at the end of a 6-foot cable.

Set-up was straight forward. The IR transmitter needed to be hung down in front of the cable box we were trying to control. The cable box we wanted to control is located in upstairs room while the viewing area is in the basement. In order for the RF receiver to work the remote has to held exactly at a 45 degree angle to the ceiling and the receiver can't be blocked by anything with a lot of metal in it like lamps or filing cabinets. It sure is a lot more convenient than running up stairs to fast forward or to change cable channels. I only gave it three stars due to the RF and IR obstruction issues.

I had a NextGen for years and loved it, but it stopped working so I thought I would try a new one. Would not work. Requested help from customer service, via email - never responded. After playing around with it for a week, finally got it to work by using the new base station, but with my old RF transmitter and the new battery.

Excellent product; performs as advertised without fuss or bother. I use it in the RV to control the front-mounted satellite receiver from the rear bedroom and couldn't be happier with it.
