  • Rough-in kits are designed to be used to ensure that the ceiling material is cut to the correct size and in the proper location for your in-ceiling speakers. For use with Mitek's 8-inch Ceiling 2-Way Speakers or the single 8-inch Dual Voice Coil Ceiling Speaker, these rough-in frames are available for use in new-construction homes. The Rough-In Kit for 8-inch In-Ceiling Speakers are put in place prior to the ceiling's installation. Each bracket is quickly and easily assembled between ceiling joists. A pair of rough-in frames is included in this kit; speakers are sold separately.

The Rough-In Kits can be nailed, screwed or stapled to the ceiling joists. They will span 16-inch and 24-inch studs on and off center. Each bracket includes a small tooled-in loop for securing the speaker wire during the pre-wire process.

Attach the two mounting wings to the loop using the included hardware. Position the assembled Rough-In Kit in the speaker location you desire, and then nail, screw or staple the wings to the ceiling joists, using at least two attachments per wing. Attach the pre-wired speaker wire to the wire loop, and then follow the outside of the ridge as a guide for cutting through the ceiling material.

Very, very pleased with the quality of these brackets. From the pictures, I assumed they were all plastic, but they are actually quite well-made and the speaker frames are a very sturdy, but lightweight metal. Actually installing these today, as we are expecting insulation and drywall to come in over the next week or so. I hesitated to order these as they didn't appear to be very substantial from the website description. Notating that they are indeed made of something other than cheap plastic would probably be very beneficial. Great product, at a very reasonable price!

I wish that the site would have specified that they're sold in pairs, i ended up ordering many more than needed.
