Mechanical Design EngineerAs a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will design and develop new products for our INSTEON brand, provide design support and process improvement for the production department, and interface with contract manufacturers to create the best possible products for our customers. Work Experience:
  • 5 years experience required, preferably in a high volume consumer electronics industry.
  • Experience in designing parts that use screw machining, injection molding, and stamping processes preferred.Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering requiredTechnical/Functional:
  • Has developed high level of design / technical skills and manufacturing knowledge. Is able to successfully create high complex designs and provide unique design solutions.
  • Key contributor to help the team reach their objectives. Provides technical leadership as a member of a project team.
  • Is perceived as a valuable resource apart from formal position or authority. Coordinates with cross functional associates. Can influence small group consensus, direction, and action. Takes on increasing levels of responsibility for design integrity and engineering support on all assigned products.
  • Is able to create presentations to clearly explain design concepts and compare and contrast the benefits of each design.
  • Utilizes resources outside of engineering (quality, sourcing, manufacturing) required to complete engineering assignments.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with CAD software, including Solid Works and Pro-Engineer, to develop new product concepts and communicate final configuration to manufacturing. Responsibilities/Duties:1. Execute engineering activities for multiple projects and priorities to align with business and department goals. Designs components and/or sub-assemblies using Solid Works and Pro-Engineer. Understands interdependencies of the product.2. Uses analytic software and/or prototyping to demonstrate product feasibility with more complex designs and a higher level of efficiency. 3. Solid understanding of GD&T. Conduct tolerance analysis of multi-part assemblies. 4. Is proficient in creating cost estimates for new and existing components and sub-assemblies.5. Can independently work with suppliers and/or manufacturing to develop new or enhance existing components and assemblies.6. Writes test plans and develops testing fixtures as needed.7. Develops and maintains accurate and complete engineering documentation, i.e. design layouts, BOM, detail and assembly drawings.8. Evaluates and executes engineering change documents as required. Fully understands engineering change process.9. Provides optimized designs that incorporate knowledge of customer service requirements, end user needs and manufacturing requirements.10. Creates timelines for engineering deliverables of an assigned project.11. Can write patent disclosures and identify the novel design features.12. Understands defect / failure / modes / effects / analysis (DFMEA) and design review processes. Able to apply DFMEA process to assigned projects.13. Willingness to be flexible and change or redesign products at every stage of development. 14. Able to travel internationally.
