  • IRLinc - Insteon IR Transmitter allows you to turn any KeypadLinc or Mini Remote into an IR remote that will integrate Insteon controlled lights and devices with your whole-home music system, home theater, or even your IR-controllable blinds or drapes. Using an Insteon controller such as KeypadLinc, you can set up buttons for play, stop, volume up, volume down, previous track, next track, change source and power to control your whole-home music system. Or, while hosting a dinner party, set your dinner lighting scene and turn on music from your dining-room using Mini Remote, all without excusing yourself from the table. By running one of IRLinc's emitters to an IR-controllable automated drape controller you can use Mini Remote to close the drapes and remove the glare while watching a movie, open and close a home theater curtain or schedule your bedroom blinds to open in the morning. Using your Insteon network to control IR equipment around the house opens up a new world of home control possibilities.

    IR Macro Support
IRLinc Transmitter supports IR macros, allowing several IR commands to be programmed to a single Insteon controller button. Have your TV and tuner turn on, select the cable box as your source and turn on your lights from the touch of a button. Need a delay between turning on the TV and selecting the cable box as a source? Grab a remote from another room or unused remote and program a "dummy" IR code between the "TV Power" and TV source selection commands. IR macros are also great for programming several-digit television channels to an Insteon controller button.

    Independent On/Off Buttons
IRLinc Transmitter features the ability to program independent IR commands or macros to each the On and the Off on any Insteon controller. Make your Mini Remote even more intuitive by programming the "Volume Up" IR command to the 1st On button and "Volume Down" IR command to the 1st Off button. Also, take advantage of macros by programming your two favorite television channels to the 2nd On/Off button pair. For example, you can program your Mini Remote's 2nd On button to change to the Discovery channel, while the 2nd Off button changes the channel to ESPN.

Note: The IRLinc is currently unsupported in HouseLinc software.

    Non-Volatile Memory
All IRLinc settings are stored in non-volatile memory and are not lost during power failures.

If they paid you $10 to try this, I'd still tell you to pass. Review by Ryan
If they paid you $10 to try this, I'd still tell you to pass.

Bought 2, set up 1, removed the other because it made every change on my ISY take over 10 minutes. Tried to return it - asked to pay for return shipping. Totally not worth your time or money.

I hope the replacement works Review by OldSurferDude
    I hope the replacement works

I had the dickens of a time trying to get this to work. Finally, after many factory resets, try this, try that, I did a factory reset and followed the instructions to the absolute letter. I got to 4)c. of the Quick Start Guide, "Test the learned IR code by tapping the Set button on
    IRLinc once
IRLinc will beep. (If not, return to step 3)
IR-controlled device will respond (if not, try moving the
    emitter slightly and retry) "

And the IR-control device did not respond.

Thus, I concluded it was DOA. I sent it back and am awaiting the replacement. If the replacement works, look for an updated review.

Not compatible with insteon hub or android / iphone app Review by Scott
Not compatible with insteon hub or android / iphone app

"Using an Insteon controller...." Well, the 2245 or android / iPhone app are controllers that SHOULD be usable. After a curt discussion with insteon, they are not compatible nor are they aware of these devices on a roadmap. Come on Insteon. You need to be compatible with your own gear! What's the point of this device if you can't control them from a central and updated interface?

The other reviews are accurate - it takes a ton of trial and error and reprogramming to get this to sort of work. With ISY, you have to create scenes to control it, and you have to delete the device each time you reprogram it. Also, ISY limits you to just 2 signals. That seems horribly limited in 2016 - this thing should be able to store hundreds, or at least the 8-9 sub codes that insteon addresses allow. I tried to control a TV, a receiver, and an air cleaner. Only the receiver worked. The air cleaner needed a different set of IR emitters and the Vizio TV didn't work with either. I've spent over 12 hours of frustration on this. Time to look at the Z-wave modules instead.

Worked great for a year and then melted Review by Larry
Worked great for a year and then melted

I had two of these to control my ductless air conditioners. Programming them was not that difficult and they did the job of starting and stopping the AC units on a schedule based on outside temperature. Yesterday one stopped working and when I looked into it today the unit was to hot to hold and the back had melted a little. My other unit is still Okay and not warm at all. We have had quick power disruptions in the last few days so I will chalk it up to that and buy another. I am also getting surge protectors,

    Close .... Review by Jim
    Close ....

This device shows real promise, but the documentation makes things ... challenging. I have yet to figure out how to rprogram a macro into ti (more than one IR command) although the manual and the reviews above clearly say it supports it I can not find details on how. I've gotten it to work with my ISY, but have yet to figure out how to distinquish an 'off' from an 'on' there .... so a bit frustrated but I'm hoping Kelly or Mike (or anyone) can shed light on the macros issue for me

Disappointed. I spent two full days trying to get it to work a FLIRC IR PC receiver. Every trick and combination. In addition, it is VERY difficult to program even using the ISY. It literally takes 20-30 minutes for the ISY to program it. Then if one button doesn't work, you have to delete the whole device and start again. Great luck with other insteon devices, but skip this one.

I am very disappointed on the fact that you can not use this with the app that comes. this would be the best asset because it would let me control all kind or ir devices...... lots of wasted potential.
