Employee INSTEON Stories - SwitchLincs, Controlincs, RemoteLinc, Keypadlinc, lamplinc

Thi NgoThi Ngo ? Marketing Project Manager

Apprehensive about the potential difficulty with installation and set up, Thi was a bit skeptical about diving into the INSTEON waters. About a year ago, she finally took the plunge when her husband and she bought their first house and she has never looked back.

What was your initial experience with the INSTEON technology?

I am not the handiest person in the world, so I was a little freaked out that I might electrocute myself trying to switch out a light switch. Thankfully, the directions were clear and easy to understand making the installation a breeze. I’m proud to say that I set up my entire INSTEON network all by myself and if I can do it, anyone can. As long as you can follow (written) directions, you will have no problems with the installation or set up (links and lighting scenes).

What INSTEON-compatible products do you have set up in your home now?

INSTEON is a drug. Once you get a taste, you just want more. Currently I have a ControLinc by my bed in the master suite and KeypadLincs in the garage, kitchen and foyer. I have an obscene amount of (15) SwitchLincs -- Relays, Dimmers, Timers -- throughout the house and (5) LampLincs a plenty. Since I recently started using HouseLinc Desktop to manage all the INSTEON stuff in my house, I also have a PowerLinc USB.

Do you really use INSTEON in your daily life?

INSTEON is one of those things that you didn’t know you needed until you get it.  Turning off all the lights in the house from bed when I’m ready to go to sleep is awesome. Being movie buffs, my husband and I set up a lighting scene perfect for watching movies with a single touch of a button. I’m afraid of the dark, so I love that I never have to come home to a dark house because I can turn on all the lights in the house from a controller in the garage.

What’s your best INSTEON story?

After I “INSTEONized” my house, I mainly used it to turn all the lights on and off in the house with simple “Goodnite” and “Welcome Home” scenes. It wasn’t until I hosted a party at my house that I truly discovered the power of the technology. Wanting to impress my friends, I set up a “party” scene with lights in the living room and dining room -- fading up at different speeds to different brightness levels. The effect was dramatic and totally blew away my guests. That’s when I got hooked on INSTEON.

Now that you are deeply submerged in the world of INSTEON, are you planning to add more to your home?

Even though I work here, I still can’t get my hands on the new RemoteLinc. We just can’t seem to keep those puppies stocked. Being the first truly wireless INSTEON-compatible device, what’s not to like?
