  • Wireless indoor motion monitoring

Our new and improved wireless motion sensor makes activating lights or scenes based on movement easier and more reliable than ever. Motion Sensor is perfect for areas in your home where lights are commonly left on like the laundry room, closets, and the garage. When used with the Insteon Hub, your home's security is always safe, at home or away, day or night.

    Occupancy Sensing

Turn any Insteon-controlled light into an occupancy sensing device by pairing it with a Motion Sensor and turn on lights automatically when you enter a space and off when you exit.

    Save Energy

By automatically turning lights off when rooms are unoccupied, you'll not only reduce your electrical bill but you'll save your own energy by not having remind family members to turn lights off.

    Get Notified

Pair the motion sensor with the Insteon Hub and receive alerts to your smartphone when there's unexpected motion. You can also sound an alarm or chime sound by pairing to an Insteon Siren.

    Countdown Timer

Countdown timer lets you decide how long after motion has stopped before turning lights off.

    Night-Only Mode

Set the motion sensor to turn lights on based on motion only when dark. Light sensitivity adjustment* allows you to set just how dark it needs to be before lights turn on.

    Super-Simple Setup

Unlike other connected motion sensors on the market, Insteon sensors can be paired directly with wall switches, plugs and other Insteon connected devices - no hub required. Using with the Insteon Hub provides more features and configuration options. The choice is yours.

    • *Settings adjustable only through Insteon App on iOS and Android. Default settings are 30 seconds countdown and night-mode disabled.

    What's New

    New Design

Smaller and more modular design gives you multiple mounting options while maintaining a lower profile than traditional motion sensors.

    Improved Wireless Performance

With a completely new antenna design, you'll get a longer range, and more consistent performance than our previous model.

    Battery or USB Power

Power your sensor with the included long-life lithium battery or use a micro USB cable* for battery-free operation.

    Give Motion a Pause

If you you're having a party or just need a break from automated lighting, tap the Motion button on the sensor to temporarily pause detection for the evening.

    • *USB cable and power adapter sold separately.

The Insteon motion sensor can activate lighting and other Insteon connected devices when motion is detected. After motion has stopped the sensor will turn connected devices off. Connect it to the Insteon Hub and the sensor can also alert you to unexpected motion while away from home.

Configurable Settings (available via Insteon Hub and other compatible controllers):

    • Nightmode – Tells the motion sensor that you want it to work only at night
    • Light Sensitivity – How sensitive the motion sensor is to detecting light
    • Motion Countdown – The amount of time that the motion sensor will wait before turning off linked devices
    • On Only Mode – This mode causes the motion sensor to only send the “ON” command and ignore the countdown. The customer will be responsible for turning off the light when they leave the room.
    • Motion LED – Option to disable the LED indicator that flashes when motion is detected

    Mounting Options

    Snug in the Corner

Set the motion sensor on any flat surface for quick and easy motion detection.

    Flexible on the Wall

Mount the motion sensor on a wall and use the flex mount to angle it to see only in a particular area.

    On the Surface

Set the motion sensor on any flat surface for quick and easy motion detection.

    Upgrade? Review by Ramblreb

They go from a device that is rated for indoor or outdoor use to one that is only rated for indoor use and call it an upgrade? Now they have discontinued the first generation of motion detector and left us without a device we can use outside for insteon motion detection. Gee thanks!

    MOTION II Review by hgandre

Unit failed and did factory reset, it worked for a while, but stopped performing. Have contacted Insteon and waiting on reply update. Latest reply was to provide the receipt, which I did not retain after purchase. Hope to see their response soon.

Good but not great Review by JAYPRAKASH
    Good but not great

Though this product is good, it is not great. It requires few enhancements at least. I am using this with my family room lights to turn on when there is darkness at night time. This product works for all day and night. Even during a daytime (with nice sunlight), it turns on the lights. So, it should have schedule feature. Then, I can setup from 11:00 pm to 5:00 AM. Other than this time, it should not work. It is connected with Hub. So, it should know time.

Also, it always turns off lights after few minutes unless the "On Only" function is turned on. This feature is also not user-friendly. As this turns on lights even in the evening when we need lights on. Suddenly, it turns off lights even if we need lights. If the "On Only" function is turned on, it keeps lights on even at midnight which is against the energy savings. If the schedule functionality is working, this issue can be resolved.

Setup Instructions Sorely Inadequate Review by Rodney
    Setup Instructions Sorely Inadequate

If you want to change detailed settings, especially sensitivity, the setup instructions are woefully inadequate. This is especially true if you use a lighting controller other than their own Insteon Hub, like the Universal-Devices ISY controllers, which is much better quality and more flexible. Forget their poor, "script-reading" technical support. I called Smarthome support to get clarity on the Motion Sensitivity setting, that is, how the sensitivity setting number corresponds to increases or decreases in motion sensitivity. They sent me the so-called "manual", which are now extremely basic and not detailed enough. It is also not clear how you adjust the sensitivity to darkness.

Will not work in conjunction with a light switch Review by Don
Will not work in conjunction with a light switch

I wanted this to turn the light on the bathroom when you walked in and turn it off after 30 minutes. The problem is that it will only send the on signal once until it sends the off signal. So if you turn off the light from the wall switch, the motion sensor will not work again until that 30 minutes elapses. This makes it completely unusable for this application. Why have a motion sensor that only works one time every 30 minutes.

Motion ok electronics not so much Review by William
Motion ok electronics not so much

I purchased 4 of these. One is in my closet and one is at the front door. Both operate normally and are running on battery. Battery life seems to be excellent as both have been installed since Christmas with same battery. One is in my laundry room and was working well (other than it could not be configured using UD as another user stated) and it was running using a power supply. Worked until we lost power last week. Now it still triggers but the light no longer comes on when it triggers. The third has never worked as it was plugged into a transformer that showed a nominal 5v output and would not show off and on but still triggered (saw green light flash when motion was detected). So if you purchase this, please do NOT plug into 5v power, it will probably kill it.

Added another motion sensor Review by Donald
    Added another motion sensor

I give this motion sensor a 1 star. The issue is not the actual motion sensor as it has a lot of options, but it is with Smarthome engineering for not sharing the necessary PROPRIATORY firmware with Universal Devices that is needed by the ISY994 to perform its user programming.

I am sorry for any issues, however please note that this product has been fully supported by the ISY for over a year. You would need to install their beta firmware however, as it is only supported on 5.0.13 and above.

ISY works for configuring now, but, documentation is nearly non existent. Review by Ryan
ISY works for configuring now, but, documentation is nearly non existent.

High marks for getting the motion sensors to work from the ISY controllers, however, there are now so many ill-defined settings it's next to impossible to simply set the devices range sensitivity. All I want to do is set the distance sensitivity as it seems to be around five feet right now. The older sensors would extend to 20 feet or so. When I walk into the garage now, I have to walk half way in before the lights engage. Come on SH, how about a decoder ring so we can do simple things simply? The only reason I upgraded to these sensors was because of the ability to eliminate the batteries. (and yes, I know there is 'hub' documentation, but it has little to no value when using the ISY994i). Smarthome? Documentation please?

Can now configure motion sensor II with my ISY994i - Yeah! Review by Ryan
Can now configure motion sensor II with my ISY994i - Yeah!

Thanks to the response below I was able to upgrade the firmware on my ISY and configure four of these motion sensor II devices. Upgrading to four stars as I'm still searching for documentation on the plethora of configuration options now available for this sensor. Otherwise my 90+ Smarthome Insteon devices are all running like clockwork and the ISY has been rock solid for years now.

New to Insteon Review by Stevenr
    New to Insteon

I'm new to Insteon and just got the motion detector. It does what it says. I'm not using it in any useful way yet. I have a suggestion for the future and that is to be able to enable/disable the motion trigger based on time of day. Maybe it's doable now but I don't see how.
