  • What's Included
  • When planning the electrical wiring for your home or business, avoid adding too many wall switches in a single location. Wall switches ganged together cause homeowner confusion and can quickly ruin the aesthetic of a room. Instead consider adding a single Insteon keypad to control all the lighting. It's easy when combined with Insteon DIN Rail products.

Use of DIN rails is common overseas and in US commercial/industrial buildings. Because of their ease of installation, DIN rails are becoming more popular in the US. DIN rail products provide integrators and builders a more custom and organized way to handle complicated wiring circuits.

The DIN Rail On/Off clips directly onto a 35mm DIN rail and wires to load, power and neutral. Link it to an Insteon keypad or any other Insteon device for full remote control over the module and it's connected load. Specifically, DIN Rail On/Off is compatible with the "Top hat rail EN 50022" (sometimes referred to as a Type O or Type Ω) The DIN Rail On/Off will fit either variation of this style DIN rail (either 15 or 7.5 mm "high" off the mounting surface).

    What's a DIN Rail?
It is simply a metal rail on which compatible products (circuit breakers, switches, etc.) can be snapped on. The DIN rail can simply be mounted to any flat surface (or even across studs). Please follow all applicable building and electrical codes whenever installing electrical products.
Top hat DIN rail Cross section With module snapped on

Please note that the DIN Rail On/Off is not compatible with C section or G section Din rails.

    Optional Sense Wire Trigger
The DIN Rail On/Off features sense inputs for special applications where a local "dumb" switch might be necessary in addition to remote Insteon control. Sense inputs are compatible with latching, single momentary and dual momentary wall switches. Connect to any style wall switch to match any type of designer theme (antique, push-button, metal, etc.)

    Local Control and Insteon Setup
The DIN Rail On/Off has a small paddle that operates exactly the same as the best-selling SwitchLinc paddles. So, you can turn the connected load on or off by tapping the paddle. Furthermore, a setup button is provided for setting up other properties as well as for linking and un-linking. Finally a dual-color (green and red) LED displays the on (green) or off (red) status of the connected load.

Quality Product Review by ROBERT in LWR
    Quality Product

Wired the relay in parallel with a Jandy Pool light relay so the light can be controlled by either the Jandy system or Google Assistant. Works well.

    Great Product Review by William
    Great Product

As will all of the Insteon Products this a great one. I needed to control 72 florescent fixture fro on space including varying programs (scenes) for different events. This allows us to do that as well as from the module turning on each light for maintenance.

    Another great product.

works well with IBOCO enclosures Review by James
    works well with IBOCO enclosures

This review is specifically for the purpose of sharing information on the IBOCO enclosures that work with these modules. Smarthome has a few of the larger IBOCO enclosures on this site but they are out of stock or the links are dead. I had to go straight to the manufacturer to find a smaller unit for my purposes (4 Insteon DIN modules). While information online is limited both from Smarthome and IBOCO, what you need to know for selecting an enclosure is that the Insteon DIN modules require about 3 circuit breakers worth of width in these enclosures. For instance I'm using the IBC-1265 which is intended for 12 circuit breakers, so it's the 2 digits after the hyphen that tell you the circuit breaker capacity. Then divide by 3 for the number of Insteon DIN modules it will accommodate.

The enclosure is made in Italy; the quality is very good. The door is smoked plexi (or similar) and has a solid latch. Both the door and the seam between front and back are sealed with a gasket. This is certainly capable of outdoor use, but I'm keeping mine inside. A short section of DIN rail is mounted inside and places the front face of the Insteon DIN modules about 1/4" through the opening. Snap-in blank covers are available if you are not populating all the positions and one of them is made such that it adjusts to perfectly fill the last space (hard to explain w/o a picture). There's plenty of space for line voltage wiring and any low voltage (sense) wiring that you need to make. There are no knock-outs for conduits; you'll have to drill your own. Overall I'm happy with the modules and the enclosure. I wish I could attach photos here to help out others.

I'd include a link to the site where I obtained my enclosure, but I'm not sure that Smarthome would appreciate that, so you'll have to Google it yourself.

The DIN form factor is very good to install on the power distribution panel or in the attic.

I like din rail stuff, but it would be cool if it was dual band!

Smarthome response: You're in luck! The DIN Rail is in fact a dual-band INSTEON device.

Works great. Be aware the sense inputs can not be used for anything other than a latching circuit.
