  • What's Included
  • By labeling all eight buttons on an Insteon Keypad Dimmer Switch (sold separately), you'll be able to tell at a glance which lights or rooms each button controls. Pre-printed labels are included with every Keypad Dimmer or On / Off Switch, but for the ultimate in personalization, order Custom Keypad Buttons, laser-etched replacement buttons for Insteon Keypad Dimmers and Switches.

Please follow these instructions to order your Custom Keypad Buttons:

    1. After submitting your order, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with your customization order details for your records.
    2. Your custom Keypad buttons will be created and will arrive via United States Postal Service within 7 to 10 business days.
    3. Due to the nature of the customization of each product, all sales are final. Returns will only be accepted due to an error on the part of Smarthome.

Customization Process Explained: Laser etching your custom labels onto the Custom Keypad Buttons requires a careful, detailed process to ensure your satisfaction. Buttons are secured on a template and placed into our laser etcher. Your designated text is copied directly from the invoice and inputted manually into the computer, and the laser then etches your buttons with your selected text. The template is removed from the laser etcher, and the buttons are prepped, painted, and set to dry. The buttons are polished to a high shine after any excess paint is removed. All Custom Keypad Buttons go through a careful quality-control process before the buttons are packaged and shipped to your home.

When placing your order, please note:

Etching space is limited to 7 characters per line, with a maximum of 2 lines per button

Buttons are available in White (seen above), Ivory, and Light Almond

Colors options below (shown in 6-button configuration):

    Custom Etched Keypad - White

    White

    Custom Etched Keypad - Ivory

    Ivory

Custom Etched Keypad - Light Almond

    Light Almond

Please note that at this time Black and Brown buttons completely block the light from the LED indicators. Gray buttons allow only enough light to be seen in a darkened room. It is recommended that you use these colors only in locations where the lights/appliances you are controlling are visible from the controlling keypad.

A set of 6 buttons (2 large/4 small) is also available for 6-button keypads.

Each button is laser-etched with your detailed room description. Smarthome is unable to accept returns on special-order items. For more information, please see our return policy.

The Perfect Custom Touches Review by James

I have been labeling my Insteon on wireless switch linc for ages. I got real good at making a label and applying it to look custom. However with the purchase of a home, built in 1948, and with good wiring, i decided to go all in on the game with the Key Pad Lincs. And of course I knew I wanted to make sure all the buttons are custom.

I have ordered about 25 switches. I summarily ordered, in small batches, the custom buttons. After all I was not even sure what the switches would control in the end state. The large buttons are the ones I struggled with because you can not just order a set of 4 large buttons, which would seem doable if they made the KPL in a 4 button set up. So that is where you need to be thoughtful. On the small buttons, I made a few bad choices and so I ordered a mix and match set where I got my large buttons and small buttons addressed.

The team caught a couple spelling errors for me thankfully. And that alone was truly great customer service.

So now, all my KPLs in wall or table box, have buttons that say exactly what they do, colored gels behind some buttons to match the color of the scene or to dim out the light more. I am very pleased. My whole house looks like it had a custom installation (which I guess it did because of me). I even found a custom etcher for the lutron style switch plates so I could label the switches in the 2 and 3 gang set ups.

It's expensive for what it is, but not for what you get. Review by Dave

As everyone else says, this is expensive for just a couple of pieces of plastic with some etching on it. But I've toyed with the idea of buying some little laser etcher, tape and all the other stuff needed to do this myself. Then thought of the prospect that getting the software to work with my mac, still having to buy blank buttons (also expensive) or somehow scrub the existing writing off my original buttons... really?

So yeah. It is expensive when you look at it from the standpoint of a couple pieces of custom printed plastic. But, since I just did it, I've been very happy that its just done (after a couple YEARS of putting it off) and the lady is overjoyed to know what's where now. I should have done it a long time ago.

Or I could have spent six or more times as much learning to fish rather than just buying fish here. But, fishing is boring and I'd probably never get the fishing machine to work right anyway. If you aren't aching to own a CNC laser, just do it. Think of it as the cost of a bad movie. You'll get way more out of it.

Very nice, but expensive and don't match Review by Deven

Purchased 7 of these. The arrived on time and look great! However, I purchased a few sets of the pre-printed ones a year or so ago, and these do NOT match. Very disappointed. Try to make everything uniform and my buttons STILL don't match even after spending well over $200 to make it so. If I want a perfect match, I'll have to have MORE custom ones made with the wording that was already available in the pre-printed ones. This is ridiculous.

    Expensive necessities Review by James

Unless you want your family and guests guessing what the heck each of the 8 non-descript buttons on your keypads do, custom buttons are a necessity. Unfortunately, they're shockingly pricey for what they are. These are plastic buttons with poor light transmission; they're not stainless steel or anything special.

Suggestion to SmartLabs/SmartHome - increase the keypadlinc cost by $15 and include a custom set with every order. It seems silly to make people go with "Button A/B/C/etc" or try to make a bunch of generic pre-run buttons (that are only available in white) work.

Paid $20 and was very happy and still am. $50 is too much. Stuck not upgrading some switches because $50 is too much on top of the keypad itself. Has anyone taken the plain ones to a place that does custom etching for trophies or knifes and had success?

I had no problem spending $20 for a set of 8 custom buttons a couple years ago. I decided I wanted two more sets (16 custom buttons), and was shocked to see the price jumped up to $50 per set! That's crazy talk!!

The custom etched buttons add a professional touch. I use them on several 6 button and 8 button KeyPadLinc devices in my home. There are quite legible. The came exactly as ordered. They arrived pretty quickly for a custom Item.

    $50? Seriously??? Review by Richard

I bought several of these at $20... which I thought was a little high but for the nicer look, went with it. Increasing the price to $50 thought is robbery. This is forcing me to take my business else where.

Smarthome also seems to be censoring these updates... another reason to shop elsewhere.

I thought $20 before was a lot but I was willing to pay that for the professional look. $50 for this is just outrageous. Not only will I not buy this but it's forcing me to look at different options elsewhere.

Let through half the light, lighter text than older buttons Review by Dragon
Let through half the light, lighter text than older buttons

I've bought two sets of these. In 2013, they had dark, bold text that matched the 25 or 50 popular button sets. Now in Sept 2015, the buttons I received use a thinner font, the ink looks slightly greyer, and the buttons themselves let through about half the amount of light as the old buttons. All of this makes the new ones much harder to read and they don't match the look of the buttons they're next to.

I'm pretty sure this is their new printing process because the set of 50 popular buttons I bought at the same time has the same problem.

Smarthome has always had a problem with color-matching their plastics and I've never gotten buttons custom printed or in the popular sets that exactly match buttons bought in years past.

I'm wondering if making these small changes is Smarthome's way of encouraging people to only print full 8 button sets at a time rather than mixing and matching to save money.

At $50 a pop, I expect better matching and am very unhappy with the readability of their 2015 buttons.
