Will not schedule events Review by Mark
    Will not schedule events

Insteon says that you can schedule multiple device events. Not true or not true with the instructions provided. Most disappointing. Works great with echo one command at a time. Scheduling a repeating event is not possible until Insteon and Amazon get it together. If I sound a bit angry it's because I spend a fair amount of $$ based upon bogus descriptions.

Smarthome reply: Multiple scheduled events need to be programmed through scenes.

    Failed again Review by JE
    Failed again

I've bought 2 hubs over the past 2.5 years, and both have met the same fate. They simply became unresponsive and stopped turning on. No lights on the box, no communication, nothing. To make matters worse, each time this happens, I have to get a new box and start everything over from scratch, and as you may have seen from other reviews with the same issues, this can be a pain if you have micro on/off modules and complex scheduling set up. This thing has serious QC issues.

Smarthome reply: We have identified an issue that effects Insteon Hub (2245-222 - revisions prior to 2.3) where in rare circumstances a component may fail if exposed to prolonged and excessive heat. In these failures the Hub will cease to function. To prevent such an issue from occurring we introduced a hardware change that began shipping in December 2016 (Rev 2.3).

Fine for as long as it's short life allows

Both units I've had have died within 18 months. Not really happy with that obviously!

Wasted time and money Review by Dee
    Wasted time and money

Would not recommend this hub or other Insteon products.
I had to order a replacement hub after one not even 2 years old simply died. I suspect it's the power transformer inside that has cooked itself.
I have been waiting with no response from support to try and get the new hub up and running but cannot get anyone to do a simple account reset.
It is designed in such a way that it WILL fail. Instead of making the power supply external, Insteon has chosen to make it internal, rendering a unit useless when the power supply fails.
Hundreds of dollars into a system that's supposed to help make my life in a wheelchair easier and all I get is frustration and annoyance by what really starts to look like cheap junk. UNACCEPTABLE STANDARDS OF PRODUCT QUALITY AND UNACCEPTABLE STANDARDS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Addicted to Insteon Home Control Review by JPR
    Addicted to Insteon Home Control

Have had Insteon switches in my home for a long time, but just started using the hub for control and I love it. Works great and is extremely easy to setup and use - and to add additional devices (unfortunately for my wallet). It would be nice to have a bit of flexibility in display and control for advanced users, but hopefully updates will continue to arrive. In addition, would love to be able to add 3rd party cameras, for example, and incorporate motion detection and recording.

    Disposable hubs? Review by Gregory
    Disposable hubs?

I bought this hub to replace one I purchased about 6 months ago. The previous one worked well until it just completely died one day. I rely heavily on this unit, so I called for support, but the hold time was excessive and I ended up just ordering a new one. Good sales plan!

I did eventually get an email response to my question about how to back up and restore all of that hard work I put in to programming the unit: tough luck - no backup and restore.

The new one, while it looks the same and uses the same interface, has been problematic. It sits in exactly the same place as the old one. Nothing else in the house has changed, yet I'm having trouble getting the new one to do the exact same scenes as the old one. I don't understand the inconsistency.

If this one goes, I'm done.

Great for the $$ Review by Eric
    Great for the $$

I was skeptical on buying one of these hubs as the reviews said that they "weren't customizable" or "lacked basic features." BUT I have to say that if your looking for a controller that will auto-detect all your wired, LED bulbs, and other Insteon switches this does it great!. Programming via the Insteon App is a breeze with setting up devices, rooms and scenes.

NOTE: this is not the controller if you have complex scenes and want to set dawn/dusk scenarios. Using an SYI Controller is the better way to go.

I have a 3 story town-home so I bought a bridge to get the signals to cross over each phase and repeat on the 3rd fl. Once that was installed the network has been 100% reliable. I am completing the rest of my conversion of the non-insteon switches but am looking forward to being able have Echo handle all my scenes via voice. The wife and family are totally enjoying it.

Love the integration with all Insteon products and non as well. Once I heard Nest worked I will be running out to get a nest thermostat to control the temperatures on all floors.

The only drawback I wish it had was the dual integration with Homekit/ECHO. When I bought this unit I wasnt aware that there was a "Homekit" specific unit. I don't know if there was some technical software limitation having both Homekit and Echo on the same unit but would love to have the flexibility via software push.

Advanced features e.g. dawn/dusk scenes are lacking but this controller is not for that market segment of HA hobbyists.

If your on the fence and have Insteon products in your house now, I would go and get this and get closer to total home automation.

works great but lack customization features keeps it from being great. Review by Waasy
works great but lack customization features keeps it from being great.

I Love this device and everything I've purchased from them has worked very good. I have one glaring problem with the lack of customization of certain devices. The lights should have a Day or night only randomizer as well as the current scheduling. Sometimes i need devices to come on more than once. Also i have the thermostat controller and i cant access the programing that I set on the device. I want it to come on and go off at various times during the day and you cant do that. If this could do that there would be no reason to buy another device.

Insteon & Alexa (Amazon Echo) Review by John
    Insteon & Alexa (Amazon Echo)

I recently upgraded to the new hub so I could use Insteon with Alexa. I have to say it is not always easy to integrate technologies from different companies but I have found that this combo works. I started with Alexa, a Insteon hub and 2 plug in modules. It worked so good and was such fun to use that I just had my entire house rewired with all new Insteon light switches (2477d) and more plug in modules. I added Amazon Dot's in every room (the small device that talks to Alexa) and now I can control my entire home from ANY room. It works great !! I have multiple scenes programmed for multiple switches (like KITCHEN that turn on my in ceiling lights, my under cabinet lights and my dinette chandelier...all at once. I can also control each of them individually if I want. I also have a scene called ALL LIGHTS that turns on every light and plug in module all at ones. Great for security, sort of like a PANIC button. In all I have over 20 devices on line now and I plan to add more. In full disclosure I am an experienced IT professional and can work through any glitches on my own. My advice...just go for it !!!

Nice and functional, but not for the faint of heart Review by Richard
Nice and functional, but not for the faint of heart

I've had a hub for a couple of weeks now, and am controlling several devices with it. So far, pretty good. It does show a lot of promise.

Each item in the Insteon system comes with it's own piece of documentation, but there doesn't seem to be a good overview of how the system as a whole is supposed to work. The step-by-step instructions in the doc are nice, as long as things go well.

Among the missing pieces of documentation is an overview of how the whole system is intended to work, and a good definition of terms. For example, the doc for some of the devices suggest "programming the device via the hub" vs. using "local programming". However, when "programming via the hub", you are *still* directed to push buttons on the devices and link them, which actions are also used for "local programming". I found that confusing, and thought I was doing something wrong.

Support tells me that one device (the Chime Alert) does not support "programming via the hub", yet the documentation for the device strongly recommends *programming it via the hub*. Huh?

One oddity related directly to the hub: a device programmed via the hub sends e-mail alerts. The alert gives the time of the alarm, but includes the statement that the time isn't adjusted for DST. Really?? An Internet-connected device that can't adjust for Daylight savings time?

For the most part, I've gotten each of the five devices in my system to work - some requiring trial and error. So the system shows great promise, but it definitely isn't "plug and play"!
