Works with Google Home! Review by David

I use the hub to help configure Insteon keypads (they can get cumbersome if you're manually linking stuff) to control wall switches and outlets throughout the house. Setup is pretty straightforward and the iOS app is no frills but functional and simple. I have recently added a Google Home and at first saw no way to control my Insteon gear. That is until now. After linking it up in the Google Home app, I can control the keypad scenes (so that the LED status tracks the states appropriately) and even control the Insteon thermostat. Everything from the Google Assistant side works fast and reliably - like Insteon does in general. For those with Google Home or Google Assistant, here are some commands you can use...

Lighting devices (dimmers, switches, outlets, bulbs):
    Hey Google,
"Turn on the living room light"
    "Turn off the basement lights"
"Set the dining room light to 65 percent"
"Brighten the bedroom light to 100 percent"

    Thermostat:
    Hey Google,
    "Make it warmer"
"Set the upstairs thermostat to 72 degrees"
"Turn up the temperature by 2 degrees"
    "Set the thermostat to heating"
    "What's the temperature inside?"
    "Turn the downstairs thermostat off"

Hub 2245-22 died, but fixed by replacing C7 Review by kiwin
Hub 2245-22 died, but fixed by replacing C7
    Rating

My Hub2 2245-222 from may 2015 died slightly after warranty and i really did not want to add in all of my devices with a replacement unit.
    I self repaired my original Hub 2245-222 (rev 1.13 4814) by replacing C7 with 47uF 50v.
As Smarthome noted in one review reply, the "new" Rev 2.3 design replaced C7 with a 100uF 50v .
Replacing C7 with 100uF 50v should also work.
    More details here:

Hopefully this helpful to other in the same situation and saves a lot of time searching for a solution.

    Almost there Review by Stephen

30% of the time a command issued to an Amazon Alexa device generates the following:
"Insteon Device Not Available". This occurs on both dimmer and on-off plug in modules.

The house has many Insteon devices installed with many of them dual band and in addition there is a power line bridge to couple both phases of home wiring.

I don't have to do anything other than wait a minute to then get success.

I don't know the software version that I am using or know how to force the unit to download the latest firmware or software release. I assume this is an automatic feature but it would be very helpful if that became available through a network utility that Insteon could create.

The Android app needs work in the interface structure as you have to go back and forth to create scenes.

I love the product line but there is still room for improvement. I have been using Insteon for more than 10 years.

My original hub died after 4+ years of service. I replaced it w/a new one. Had to delete my old account then just created a new account w/the same info and I was up and running. Biggest pain was I had to go around the house and add all my devices back into the iPhone app. I haven't taken the time to open the ceiling fans and add them to the app.
I MUST get a camera for my garage so I can see in there when I am out of town!

Right now I am not a happy camper. I have two new Hubs after my first one quit after one year's use. The iPhone app won't link with the new Hubs , even after doing all the resets Insteon outlines,.
When I get a chance in the next week I hope Tech Support will show me what I am doing wrong.

Response: Sorry to hear you are having issues. If you are using the same login for the new hubs that was associated with the old unit, you would need to have support delete the previous account for you, as it is lookign for that specific hub's ID, rather than the new one.

Purchased May, 2015. Just quit today - Oct. , 2017. From what I read in several reviews, this hub seems to have about a 2 year life span. Not sure if what I'll do.

    Response:
Sorry to hear you are experiencing issues.
Please reach out to our support team, we can still replace the unit for you under warranty depending on the issue you are experiencing.

Good for Alexa, OK for very basic other stuff, not good for logic (can't do conditions, 15 min before sunset, etc. etc.).

Terrible if you have to replace.

If you just want Alexa and some manual control while away and don't have too many devices then it's fine.

Works for a good year. After, it starts to take longer to log on from the app. Then it wont recognize any new devices and/or delete devices. My second one just failed and will need to replace it once again

Severely Flawed Design Review by Douglas
    Severely Flawed Design
    Rating

First let me say that I have been a big Insteon and SmartHome fan for more than 12 years and have installed numerous Insteon in 3 of my homes and a dozen or so homes of friends. But now I discovered a VERY SERIOUS FLAW in the design - without an internet connection everything stops working!

As a Florida resident impacted by Hurricane Irma I lost my internet connection, but still have power but the flawed design of the hub stops everything from working. None of my security devices, external lighting or preset schedules work! So, when I need it the most, nothing work. I can understand that without an internet connection I can't control things remotely, However, when my Home Network (LAN) is functioning and my iPhone is connected to my home network why can't I control the devices and scenes setup on my hub? It makes no sense..

The old hub used to work that way and I would have never upgraded to the new one had I know of this limitation. It would be a simple software issue to correct this flaw, but without that fix I would not recommend Insteon for anyone.

If they do fix that and add the capability of controlling and scene defined in an Insteon hub from another Insteon device (i.e. making a scene in the hub a responder) it would really open doors and greatly simplify home control setup.

I like this product. Great for the price, easy to set up and it works quite well, as advertised. The IOS app, although well laid out and easy to access, looks miserable! How about some color other than light blue? And the tiny, white font on a LIGHT blue background is practically impossible to read on my iPhone. Please hire a good GUI graphics person and put some thought into it, then run it by someone over 60.
