Needs Backup & Restore ability Review by Mark
    Needs Backup & Restore ability

I use several of these for my home and rentals. Equipment does fail over time and I have had a couple of the hubs fail. This blocks the app from logging in. You have to delete the hub from your account and re-setup all of the sensors with a new hub. This is it's biggest downside.

Very Good Product with MAJOR Flaw Review by LJSpock
Very Good Product with MAJOR Flaw

I have tried and/or own a half dozen products that work through a hub or directly with WiFi to control devices. I use Alexa to control devices and scenes. Over time I've accumulated about 15 devices that work through the hub. While I've had some problems with communications over the years, I've generally been satisfied and felt this product was among the best available. But now, my hub died. I have the choice of having it repaired during which I would not have the use of the 15 devices for about 2 1/2 weeks or installing a new hub and starting over to pair device by device. Seems like a Hobson's choice. I elected to get a new hub and start over pairing all the devices which I estimate will take a solid day or two. Seems like a major flaw that could be overcome. I recognize that the excuse is security, but I'm a believer that good design could have security and customer friendliness. As of now, I'm stopping my expansion of my Insteon Hub centered SmartHome. My story is shared so that any of you contemplating expanding your network of devices will understand that one day, you will face the choice I'm facing. Hubs will fail. Generally, every three years from reading reviews. I like the product. But I'm stopping expansion and exploring all alternatives.

Died after 21/2 years Review by Daniel
    Died after 21/2 years

The controller was relatively easy to set up and it worked well with Amazon Echo. After two years it started to become eratic and sometimes the Echo could find it an other times it could not find it. Now after 2 1/2 years the box has died. Since the warranty has expired, I am ordering another one from Amazon to save money.

Hub just works Review by Gman
    Hub just works

I've had my hub running for 9 months now without any issues. It lets me integrate my Insteon system with Alexa and automatically updates itself so I do't have to worry about firmware updates.

Hub failed again Review by Astro
    Hub failed again

I have a version 1.4 that failed again in about a year. This will be the 3rd hub. It is inexcusable that they haven't developed a more robust design and the software is awful. They've known about these problems for years and do nothing. It is ridiculous to delete an account to replace a hub. I'm not impressed. Recommendation is to find another solution for home automation.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing issues. We have actually addressed the issue causing the power failure some time ago, but it would seem that you are still using the older version. You can contact support at 800-762-7845 to arrange a repair of the existing unit, in which case you would not need to reprogram the system.

    Skeptical Review by Jerry

This is an unreliable product and know before you purchase one of these Hub’s that there is a very high failure rate. I’m on my 3rd HUB now and there are some things that you need to know before you buy one. Things that the promotional hype won’t mention.

When it works, it’s fine, but when it fails, you’re screwed. My 1st Hub #2245-222 lasted almost a year before it failed. My 2nd Hub lasted just over 2 years. I came home to a dark house one evening and after some diagnosis, discovered that the Hub had failed. When the Hub is dead, you can’t control anything. When I got the replacement, that’s when the real fun began. Replacing a failed Hub with a new one is not a simple ‘plug & play’ swap. You will need to get the device codes from Intseon to get your system up and running again and you will have to manually type all of the code in. You will have to delete your account and set up a new account and you will need Insteon’s help to do this.

All of this requires help from customer service over the telephone. Plan on being on the phone for well over an hour plus another hour (or two) setting everything back up. All of your scenes will be lost and you will have to spend time reconfiguring your APP to get them setup again. I’m amazed that this data cannot be saved and uploaded to the new Hub in a much easier fashion.

You would think that Insteon would figure out which component within the Hub keeps failing and redesign a fix.

This product is unreliable and cumbersome to change when there is a failure. There are many other systems out in the market now and I’m hoping to find something else to take its place.

Thank you for your feedback. We have addressed the components in our current revision and you should no longer experience these issues moving forward.
Additionally we are aware that the current hub replacement process is sub optimal, and are actively looking into solutions on our end.

Hope I don't have to re-program the Mini Remote Review by patrdcflorida
Hope I don't have to re-program the Mini Remote

Not sure why I bought a new HUB 2245-222. Guess because the wife bought a Google Home device.
The new HUB 2245-222 does not support 2342-222 Mini Remote or HouseLinc.
I programmed all my devices with HouseLinc it gives me a record of devices.
The mobile app is cute and I might hook-up Google Home someday.
Just hope I don't have to re-program the Mini Remote.

Insteon Hub as expected +Google Home interworking! Review by Tyson Kostan
Insteon Hub as expected +Google Home interworking!

Hub works well. I do like the auto-updates. The fact that it works with Google Home is a major plus!

Only complaint is that I have had to replace nearly all of my Remote Control Dimmer Switches as they have failed over a 15 year period, and there is no mechanism to return for repair or discount on replacement. At $50 a pop, this can be very expensive.

My only complain is the app. A better app would make this a five star review.

Device good, Apps so-so Review by Viper
    Device good, Apps so-so

The Hub seems like it works as described except that it sometimes will not link an older device without physically putting the device into linking mode. Newer devices link fine either by address or by using the set button on the device.

I've used the apps on Windows 10, Windows Mobile, Android, and iPad. Each has things it can do better than the others and each has weaknesses that shouldn't exist. The Android can't handle multiple houses. The Windows versions handle multiple houses and allows you to see and record the Hub password, but don't handle all the new devices and alerts properly. The iOS version does handle multiple houses, but doesn't allow you to see the HUB password. This list is incomplete.

Last, the integration with Cortana could be better. I haven't found a way to Open/Close a garage door, or to turn a scene on or off.
