    Great Product! Review by OferPRTZ
    Great Product!

Insteon HUB work as expected, working with HomeSEER and insteon plugin working perfect.
for all those who gave low rating, seems that you dont know how to work this great machine, perhaps you need to learn before you talk.
and for the x10 guys.. you should replace the dinosaur already, we are in 2015!

Kind of disappointed Review by JB
    Kind of disappointed

I bought the hub and outdoor on/off module. I'm not sure I needed the hub to use it with my phone. While it was extremely easy to sync with my smartphone and computer, the UI for the PC software isn't all that intuitive. I'm not sure why I needed to make a password on my mobile device, but have no way of "logging in" through my computer. With that, it seems like there can be security risks.

Until I spend more time reading up on why I needed the hub, which I shouldn't have to do, I give it 2 stars.

Wow! What a difference Review by Sean
    Wow! What a difference

First off, unpackaging my new Hub is reminiscent of un packaging an iDevice. Well Done Insteon, if this is any preview of the new Apple partnership, I'm excited.
I have been an X-10 user for 20+ years, a few years ago started migrating to insteon.

I received my new hub in the mail less than an hour ago, it's already up and running, 8 devices, nothing complex, simple schedules and 1 sunset scene.
Despite some immediate noticible inconveniences like not being able to schedule 2 devices for the same event time, a scene would be your work around.
I would like to integrate my DVR cameras somehow, but will need a hybrid DVR/NVR I think. Can't wait for the release of the Apple Home Kit enabled hub, after the CES2015 show, and Insteon Hub being the only hub announced (other than AppleTV hub speculation) im excited that our niche hobby has gone mainstream.

    NOT X-10 Review by docwiz
    NOT X-10

This unit does not work with X10 modules. It seems that the newer Insteon stuff is dropping support for X10 so if you have legacy X10 stuff (like me), this will not work.

update to review Review by Laurence
    update to review

after bad-mothing the Hub2, I discovered (not documented that I could find) is that there can be only one hub per login. I have another hub, and with out creating another log-in nothing works.
Now that I discovered that, with the new account, at least I can see the hub. I can add devices OK, but I would love to find an API to control the hub from an external program.
I can not find any documentation on how to use the hub other than a web page/smart phone.
At least there is some progress!

not worth anything Review by Disgusted
    not worth anything

Another piece of garbage from SmartHome. Software downloads on iPad or iPhone and creates an account but won't actually connect to the hub. Don't waste your money or precious time on this piece of junk!

Good hub but needs some work Review by Arun Gupta
Good hub but needs some work

As a long time X-10 user, I am slowly changing over from X-10 to Insteon. My frame of reference for comparison is X-10 vs. Insteon.

This hub can ONLY be controlled via the phone app. Houselinc does not work with this hub. After I plugged in the hub, Houselinc did find the hub's IP address but could not connect to it. Insteon forum has a discussion on it. The users on that forum have said that this hub does not work with Houselinc. Since I had found this hub as a supported device on the Houselinc product page of, my first impression was not good.

On double checking, I found that the Houselinc page on says hub model number 2242-222 but when I click on the link, it takes me to 2245-222 which is this hub and which does not work with Houselinc. Smarthome needs to fix this. I assumed that I was ordering 2242-222 but it turned out to be 2245-222.

Once the hub is plugged into the home network, there is no way to find out it's IP address without consulting the DHCP server assigned IP address list and cross-referencing with hub's MAC address, Alternately, Houselinc displays the hub's IP address briefly during discovery phase. That is how I found it.

The documentation is very scant and does not address some of the hub settings which might be of interest to a technically inclined user. One setting, which is extremely important, is also hidden: the geographical location of house so that sunrise and sunset times are calculated automatically. I wanted to assign a static IP address to the hub, change the default port, check for hub firmware updates but could not find these easily. I also noticed that every time I made a change to any of these settings, the house location kept getting reset to CA. Very annoying.

The house location is determined automatically. It can also be entered manually. In my case, the Google maps always determines my house location at my neighbor's address and I have to input it manually.

Discovering devices was easy. Creating groups was easy. I have 3-way, 4-way and 5-way circuits and I was trying to program the Insteon switches manually which was not working. Once I added the switches to group, the hub did all the programming.

Creating scenes was easy. However, I found that scheduling needs lot of work. In the X-10 AHP software, I could easily define "turn off this lamp 30 minutes before sunrise" or "turn on this lamp one hour before sunset". Can't do that in Insteon. There is only sunrise and sunset. DST is not automatic. It has to be set manually and every time I change DST, the house location gets reset to CA...!! So frustrating.

I created a scene to turn on outside lights at few minutes past midnight and turn them off at sunrise. I found that lights turned on correctly but did not turn off. The sunrise time was shown as 7:23AM but the lights were on till 8:45AM when I switched them off manually.

The phone app (I used Android app) has lot of icons available to assign to devices, I found these lacking. Insteon devices can be used to control devices in hundreds of locations, so either the icon list needs to be expanded or I should be able to upload custom icons.

After I did all the configuration, I asked my son to download iPhone app and connect to the hub. Once connected, he could see all the devices and scenes and control all devices.

The hub range is good. I have installed the hub in basement and all the switches are on first floor. The phone connect to the home network over wifi. I have had zero problems in hub discovery/connectivity though sometimes the phone app does take about a minute to connect to the hub.

I have a very strong firewall with variety of protection mechanisms, and so far the testing I have done, indicates that I did not need to open any ports to allow control of devices from anywhere using the phone app. However, I need to test this feature more to make sure it works properly.

Using the phone app, I can add X-10 devices also but I found that X-10 devices can only be turned on/off. No dimming. Certain X-10 modules do not respond to X1-10 commands from the hub. The hub home page says that it does not control X-10 but the phone app does allow me to add X-10 modules and control them to a certain degree.

The hub is very compact and I personally like the build quality very much. I wanted to install it in a visible spot but all networking infrastructure is in the basement.

From my standpoint, the hub scheduling capabilities need to be enhanced and Houselinc needs to be updated to be able to work with this hub.
