    Works Great Review by James
    Works Great

The hub is easy to setup and use. Good Alexa integration. Hopefully support for HomeKit will be added to this hub in a future software update. The Insteon apps for iOS and Windows are good but the interfaces could be improved.

Many features don't work anymore. Updates? Review by Jonathan
Many features don't work anymore. Updates?

I've had this for a while now, it's been fairly reliable, more so than previous hubs I've owned. But, 2 key features haven't worked for some time now. The Apple Watch app hasn't worked since the last watch OS upgrade and the online Insteon portal hasn't worked for longer than that. I emailed support a few weeks ago and was told they are working on it. Meanwhile, the images above still show an Apple Watch being used to control modules, which is no longer the case.

Brought the Hub back to life Review by Diesel
Brought the Hub back to life

My Hub died so I called Tech Support to see about getting it repaired (so I wouldn't have to reset the 75 or so Insteon devices in my house. They had me plug the hub in and press the reset button on the back four times, quickly. Amazingly, the light on the front came on. I haven't reattached it to my network yet, because I finally got my ISY-994i controller working (after a week) and don't want to upset the apple cart. If your hub dies, try pressing the reset button four times quickly. She said that the settings should still be there (it's not a factory reset).

    Router Failed Review by Michael
    Router Failed

In less than two year my router died. I was frustrated with the realiability. My previous router never had a problem but was upgraded for added features. Outside of the realibility frustration, the customer service was exceptional. Not only did they acknowledge the problem, the expressed a sincere apology and provided the replacement router free of charge. I have about 30 Insteon devices in my home, so being without them for about a week was inconvenient. Coodles to Insteon and their service team for doing the right thing for a loyal customer. Keep up the great work, good luck fixing your realibilty issue. Your customer rely on you!

A better option Review by Donald
    A better option

I was concerned about the features, or lack there of, with this hub. I went with the Universal Devices ISY994i/IR PRO Controller - Insteon & IR Support + PLM (also available from It is a fully standalone unit but programable by computer. It works with Insteon and X-10. It will do just about anything you want it to do including the ability to have events happen between programable dates. I've had mine for about three years and it has operated flawlessly. Much more expensive, of course, but won't let you down. However, it does not have an easy to set up interface to a smartphone.

Update to My Prior Review Review by Garland
    Update to My Prior Review

After working with my new Hub for a week, I am up-rating it from 1 star to 3, but with some reservations. It turns out that it DOES find many of my older V2 products, but I must often attempt detection multiple times. The V2 switches are then detected but frequently fail the 10-step communications testing. Multiple attempts usually result in the V2 dimmer switches passing the tests. My V2 relay (On/Off) switches are far more stubborn (after a week of attempts, one still has not passed the comm tests, even with a range extender plugged into the same circuit). The absolute worst results are with V2 KeyPadLinc switches; Only 3 out of 6 were even detected and it took a half-dozen tries each for those to pass the comm tests (2 of the 6 went completely insane during the process and I'll be replacing them next week). Out of 3 old motion sensors, one linked flawlessly but 2 did not, even when I set them literally on top of the hub for the testing phase (those 2 were still linked to exterior floodlights and tripped them on as soon as I put fresh batteries in). My old Venstar thermostat with Insteon adapter linked almost immediately and works well with the app (except for the FAN ON/AUTO setting, which responds sluggishly). The V2 plug-in modules experienced better results when I plugged a range extender directly into them for the detection and testing but one of them has never passed comm testing. I've ordered some line filters and will try again after installing those on my refrigerators. I'd prefer not to replace V2 devices that are otherwise working flawlessly just to control them from my phone or Echo devices. Speaking of which, the Android app is a little limited in abilities and has a clunky structure, but I got used to its quirks and find it usable enough for my purposes. It works on my Galaxy and my Fire 10. The Alexa skill works fine for voice control, although it misses the mark at times and tries to blame my network. I expect this to improve as I continue to replace failed V2 devices with newer dual-band gear. Note that some of my V2 gear that wouldn't link with the hub DID, in fact, link with the newer mini remotes or scene buttons on the older KeyPadLincs. To sum up: Mixed results but I'm keeping the hub because I'm a stubborn old nerd with a substantial investment in (and will keep beefing up) my Insteon system.

Works well, for about 2-1/2 years Review by Russ
Works well, for about 2-1/2 years

The hub's internal power supply uses electrolytic capacitors with finite lifespans. That lifespan works out to be a little more than two years, so one day you'll wake up to find that none of the scheduled scenes, smartphone access, or other integrations work and the LED on the device is dark. This gives you a choice of replacing the entire hub (and losing a weekend to reprogramming all of your devices and scenes), or, if you're handy, replacing the failing components.

The software is solid, and smartphone/email/text alerts of water leaks is worth the money. There are a few missing features-- unlike the old HouseLinc software (which does not work with this hub), it can't clean up linking problems, and there's no day-of-week-specific scheduling. But aside from that it works well and gets the job done.

New Hub with some quirks Review by Mountain Road User
    New Hub with some quirks

We moved into a house that has 20+ Insteon light switches, plug-in devices, motion and door sensors, so I was excited to get a hub that I could program the devices that I wanted to control. Some of our lights that have Insteon switches just don't need a remote control, but the previous owners seemed to go hog wild when they added the smart switches.

The Hub arrived in less than a week and so far it's worked pretty well. I must say that my house has some incorrectly wired 2-way and 3-way wall switches (non Insteon) that I haven't corrected (I can do home wiring) yet, so some of the inconsistencies I'm seeing may be related to the bad wiring.

The main issue we're having is that a wall switch that controls some kitchen lights turns off every time our laundry room lights turn on or off or if one of the door sensors has sensed motion - we have 3 dogs so that door gets opened several times/day.

I must say that all the mediocre to bad reviews of the Hub has me rather underwhelmed. I can only hope that our Hub lasts more than the 2-3 years as that seems to be a pretty typical time before complete failure according to the reviews on this site. It's also mind boggling that you can't back-up the settings - Is that something that could be saved if you buy the Mac software ? That software retails for ~$260 and is too a bit steep for my needs.

Is the Hub necessary to control the Insteon devices? Or can Alexa or some of the other smart home hubs control the Insteon devices?

Finally, this is the first home where I've had easily programmable lights etc and it's really a great add to our home. Really like the capability to have lights controlled by the time of Sunrise or Sunset. Thanks in advance for any pointers etc.

When will i ever learn my lesson? Review by Charlie
When will i ever learn my lesson?

Having been an Insteon customer since 2006, I can't even count how many dimmer switches have been replaced due to bad microswitches or obsolescence due to dual band.

Now, about a year after installing the Hub, I came home from a trip with a dead hub. And after reading the reviews, I see that I'll be starting from scratch when I get the new Hub.

Shame on Insteon for fooling customers with a clever design, but using crappy components to build your parts.

    Hello Charlie
Sorry to hear about your issue, however that is not correct. You do not need to start over from scratch.
Insteon offers repair services on dead hubs, you can find out more by contacting Insteon support at 866.243.8022.

Simple, but too simple Review by Mac
    Simple, but too simple

It's a great simple unit to install and setup. However, it's too simple. It's doesn't seem the Smarthome is paying attention to their user community.
    - No backup/restore: I've had my unit for a few years, definitely exceeding what a lot of folks have experienced with failure rates, but it's starting to fail now. I'm hesitant to replace with another, as not wanting to invest all the time of having to re-setup all my devices. As many say, it's just absolutely ridiculous and irresponsible that no ability to backup and restore a config has ever been implemented. Though they are claiming they've addressed the main failure issue, looking to see if there's a better alterative.
    - Event Triggers: no real way to add device based triggers, yes I know you can do simple things with scenes and I can go to IFTT to hack some ways, etc but just another ridiculous move of not having this native.
    - Alexa control: Very basic, which is ok. Insteon devices aren't recognized for advanced controls, be nice if I had someway of making Insteon smarter.
