  • Add an Extra Wireless Transmitter for the Wireless Motion Alert system (sold separately) to monitor another entrance to your property. This weatherproof transmitter operates on one 9-volt battery (sold separately) and easily mounts on a tree or post near the driveway (mounting materials sold separately). The transmitter uses a passive infrared (PIR) beam to detect people or vehicles to a distance of up to 80 feet, and then sends a radio signal back to the receiver, which can be placed in your home up to 600 feet away.

Using the dip switches on the Extra Wireless Transmitter, you can select one of four tones (Classical, Westminster Chime, Ding Dong, or Whistle) to sound when the receiver gets the signal from the transmitter. The tone will sound for a few seconds.

I received the product in a timely manner and was very satisfied with the shipment. I ordered this extra TX for my current system that I had purchased in 2009. I installed it in the location to provide me warning if someone tries to encroach upon me at any time and to also alert me if someone is entering my field over 200 yards away. Two days after I installed the extra TX I was in my field and noticed someone had came through the gate and removed one of my air conditioners and my refrigerator. I was livid when I saw this and decided to see why this unit didn't work at the range as my other. I took it to the spot where my old (still working) transmitter is and asked my wife at the receiver end to let me know when it alarms. To my surprise it WILL NOT produce and alarm at the same distance as my old 200yds, it also will not produce an alarm at 30 yards. I was very disappointed. Smarthome along with Amazon should make corrections on the sites advertising the range of the new TX's, they make it a point not to state the changes in range and rely on the prior reviews of the old ones. The sellers of these units has resorted to misleading advertisement and relying on the old post reviews of the good units they used to supply. The range of these new units should be clearly marked on the description and features page. I will be returning this and finding something that has better range and ethics.

This is a general Dakota review. I bought this item to replace 2 of their underground driveway sensors, each of which failed in a year so they make junk for what they cost.

Question for anyone who owns one of these units.

Would this work to detect animals such as deer?

Very easy to use multiple sensors on one receiver to ID which area of your property has the alarm. It can be keyed to one of 4 different chimes.
