  • Control your lights and appliances without getting up from your computer! The Computer UPB Interface Module is a plug-in module that enables computer-based configuration and control of household lighting, appliances and other devices over the powerline using the highly reliable Universal Powerline Bus (UPB) technology. By plugging in the Computer UPB Interface Module and connecting it to your PC via the included DB-9 cable, you'll be capable of communicating with UPB plug-in modules and/or other UPB devices (sold separately) to control virtually anything that can be connected to existing wiring anywhere in the home, all via your PC. With the free, downloadable UpStart software, the computer can then be used to configure and/or control UPB devices.

UPB technology delivers exceptional reliability and noise immunity at a much lower installed cost when compared to hardwired and RF solutions, and you'll experience no interference from adjacent homes. UPB technology is not X10 compatible.

The Computer UPB Interface Module receives and transmits UPB digital commands and converts these signals to a serial RS-232C interface format. A pass-through (non-controlled) power outlet is provided on the face of the module, so you won't lose any outlets by installing this module.

The Computer UPB Interface Module is USB compatible when used with an RS-232-to-USB adapter (sold separately). If you're just getting started with automating your lights and appliances, a UPB starter kit is available and sold separately.

    Solid Product Review by David
    Solid Product

I have bought two of these and they work great. I have used x10 stuff for years and recently started switching over to UPB. The reliability of this interface vs anything I have ever used for x10 is so much better. I don't know how they will hold up in the long run but so far I am impressed. The main problem I had with x10 serial interfaces was loosing communication with the computer, especially if trying to use a USB to serial adapter. Even the x10 interfaces that were made for USB never seemed to work for more than a couple of weeks before locking up. I have never experienced a loss of communication with these interfaces, even the one I leave on all the time plugged into an old laptop with a USB to serial adapter. They also transmit and receive UPB signals as advertised. Signal strength seems to be up to UPB standards, as viewed with my oscilloscope.

    UPB Interface Review by David
    UPB Interface

I have used a lot of x10 stuff over the years and even some Insteon. UPB is the most reliable protocol I have used so far. Since this review is suppose to be about the interface all I can say so far is that it is rock solid. Connects to the software every time and always seems to send a good signal. I've only had it a few months so I can't speak about long term reliability. I am using Upstart and Home Control Assistant and they both work flawlessly with this unit.

Along with UPStart software, this interface is your gateway to designing custom scenes and setting up your UPB network of lighting control. Easily connects to the home PC using db-9 serial cable.
