  • The BeagleBoard-xM is a low-power open source hardware single-board computer. It delivers extra ARM Cortex -A8 MHz at 1 GHz and extra memory with 512MB of low-power DDR RAM, enabling hobbyists, innovators and engineers to go beyond their current imagination and be inspired by the community. It is also ideal for educational purposes that can be used around the world to teach or learn open source hardware and open source software capabilities. Designed with the community inputs in mind, this open hardware design improves upon the laptop-like performance and expandability, while keeping at hand-held power levels.     This Beagleboardxm uses a special version of Linux or Android as an operating system. You would load that onto the SD card which is what it boots from.

    You can get this board for considerably less that here at most any other electronics store online. Mouser and Digikey have it for 100 less.

    Want to experiment? Consider trying out a Raspberry Pi instead. At 35 dollars its a win-win situation for those just wanting to experiment.

    The ONE STAR rating is not for the board itself, but for the pricing. You can pay 299 for this or get a Raspberry Pi for 35 and get basically the same thing. Why pay so much?
