  • Enjoy the convenience of motorized drapes at home! This drape motor makes motorized drape control affordable. Works with both cord and ball chain type pulls. Simply hang at the bottom of the U loop of the drape pull cord, attach the wall bracket, and plug AC adapter into any standard timer. No cutting of the pull cord is required.

Works with Insteon - If you're like most people, you want more control options. That's why our customers choose to use this motor with an Insteon Plug-in On/Off Module, On/Off Outlet, On/Off Switch or 8-Button Keypad.

Smartphone Control - If you want to control it from a computer or any web-enabled phone, set up scheduled timers, we recommend choosing the Insteon Insteon Hub.

Control From a Universal TV Remote - The Insteon IR Reicever can learn signals from a universal remote and translate the signal into Insteon commands to control the ApplianceLinc. The IRLinc Receiver also includes a small remote which can be used to activate the ApplianceLinc or to learn IR commands into a universal remote.

Open or Close Drapes from a Switch or Keypad - Replace an existing wall switch with an elegant Insteon Switchs or Insteon On/Off Keypad.

These are only a few samples of the many ways Insteon can enhance control of this drape motor. You can also control your drapes via a remote control or control them with an Plug-in Timer.

This is the 3rd motor I've had to purchase... Review by Bob
This is the 3rd motor I've had to purchase...

The first Add a Motor I bought for my drapes worked perfectly for about 3 years. Then, the plastic cog rod, which comes from the motor to the wheel that pulls the curtain cord simply broke. As if "twisted". So, I contacted the manufacturer, and they gladly and quickly supplied my a free replacement.
That motor I received worked great for just over 30 days, and it too, broke in exactly the same way.
Naturally,I make sure the sliders on the curtain rod are greased, in order to keep the open/close tension on the cord as low as possible.
I had to purchase the second motor by the way.

Now, about 90 days later, the 3rd motor broke, in exactly the same way. This seems to me to be a design flaw. It can't take much of a redesign to make the plastic rod_cog part a harder, more durable plastic?

I must also mention I have troubles with understanding the broken English from the support staff. And, I can speak Japanese. I learnt it because my uncle retired from the Marines on Okinawa, and I wanted to converse with the locals.

I'm sure everyone who reads this can understand the frustration. I am so used to waking in the morning, and finding my drapes open, or having them close as "sun-down" as programmed in Houselinc.

If I could find a suitable replacement, that would not fail in this way, I would purchase it, even at a much higher cost, because I have now purchased 4 of these motors.

I guess I need to do my research for a proper replacement?

Add-A-Motor rates very low in my opinion.

    Easy Install Review by Michael
    Easy Install

I was worried how hard it would be to install this as I really don't do much maintenance other than installing a light bulb. I have to say I was amazed how quickly I got these motors installed and running. I set them up to run on timers. The first one took me about 20 minutes to install and another 10 for tinkering because I wanted to play with it. I since got 2 more and installing was a breeze. No more than 10 minutes a piece. Very dependable. Highly recommended!

You get what you pay for, probably, maybe Review by Toast
You get what you pay for, probably, maybe

This motor is fairly durable if you use it correctly. It not built to last forever, but it's fairly durable, and at the price point, it's hard to beat. Some drapery control systems cost thousands. I get at least 4 years of service out of these motors without needing parts. And on that subject, the company does supply replacement parts.

As to whether I'm actually using it correctly, I have to admit I'm not sure, because I always modify the circuit board in these motors to be controlled by a timing-based curtain motor controller and to accept input from reed switches to determine the fully closed and open points. If I didn't make these modifications, the mechanism would probably sustain more wear, cord slippage would affect the fully open and closed points, and an open command wouldn't be guaranteed to open the curtain and not close it. So now that I think about it, maybe this isn't the most helpful review for the majority of customers since I add features that the motor does not come with before using it.

NOT Approved for horizontal blinds Review by Kevin
    NOT Approved for horizontal blinds

Despite the description stating "works with many horizontals", the manual specifically states this device is not approved for them. The higher load required may cause premature failure of the drive axle that would not be covered by warranty.

    Drape motors Review by Zalman
    Drape motors

I purchased few of these motors a hum and outlets for them.
Some of the sprockets broke due to their plastic construction.
I had one of them replaced for free .
But when a second one broke, I was blamed for improper use and had to pay for it.
Now, 18 months later, I discovered that the entire housing cracked, I tried using superglue, but it didn't work. I guess that I will have to shell out another hundred bucks to replace this unit, because it is no longer under warrantee.

Have used this product for almost 14 years and have found it to be very satisfactory -- have it installed on 5 large window coverings. Only in the last year have we been having to replace units. We highly recommend this product even though the motor is a little noisy.

Works OK, but a little underpowered for my application. Somewhat noise as well.
    Great installation instructions however.

Does the job well. The last one lasted many years.\ I use it to lift an accordian blind, probably beyond it's rated capacity.
