  • What's Included
  • Optimally set up your X10 devices by thoroughly testing signal strengths to make sure the system is functioning to capacity with the ACT Multi-Tester Transceiver. This comprehensive troubleshooting X10 Transceiver allows you to choose transmit signal levels, single or continuous signal transmission, and decide zero crossing degree shift. The X10 Multi-Tester/Test Transceiver can also display or log the level or frame data on the power line on its easy-to-read LCD screen.

With the X10 Transceiver's flexible features, you'll be able to do things such as:
    • Generate test signals to verify proper receiver operation
    • Display signal strength on line from other transmitters and two-way receivers
    • Use to test potential installation sites for possible installation problems
    • Pinpoint loads to be filtered by logging power grid noise levels (user-defined time periods up to 24 hours).

Other features of the X10 Transceiver include:
    • Can log noise and frame data over a 24-hour period
    • Auto transmit mode for system testing
    • Adjustable transmit voltage in 33.3mv increments
    • Time/Date (24-hour format)
    • Selectable 0°, 30°, 60°, 90°, 120° or 150° transmit pulse
    • Shows received X10 packets as one frame or two frames (can be used to determine whether signal is repeated or original)
    • Can be used as P1 Test Transmitter

The back cover of the ACT AT004 was missing two of the four screws that hold the cover in place. There were several noticable spatters of solder on the front control panel that had to be scraped off. The unit seems to function properly. The unit was quite expensive at over $200 and I expected the quality control would have been much better.

With this tester, you can get absolute indications of noise and signal level at any location. Makes it much easier to tell the exact change in noise and signal while adding and removing suspect devices. Most UPSs seem to diminish the signal and many compact fluorescents will add noise. This tester will help show you this.

I did not use it yet.
I had a delivery problem and it was very well managed by you and I found later that the parcel had been held at the borner during 2 weeks. I rate your customer service 5 stars.

This terrific device shows you just what's happening with the X-10 devices in your house. I used it to solve a problem with the X-10 software in 5 minutes. It will also emit X-10 commands for testing purposes. It was worth the price to me when I couldn't get answers anyplace else.

Tester worked very well, found a surge protector sucking up x10 signal. Has a lot more complex tests that can be preformed, but the basic strength and noise test will probably take care of the most common faults.

So far Smart Home has replaced this unit for me twice. They would have had to do it a third time 2 year warranty but this time when the unit died, I set it back to the company that made it. They replaced an internal fuse in it and sent it back to me All previous problems with the unit were caused by a blown fuse. Because it is an internal fuse, opening up the unit to replace the fuse could void your warranty. It is a wired in fuse and so replacing it would require some technical abilities. I plugged the repaired unit back into my X10 system and within 24 hours it was dead again.

Tech support from Advanced Control Technologies finally concluded that the problem with the unit was that it was not designed to run continually. They are going to put a statement in their instructions that says not to use it for longer than 24 hours at a time.

It is a good device for reading X10 signals, but not for long term operation.

The tester operating instructions do not give any criteria for noise levels or signal levels.
