Looking for a way to access and manage common household devices via network-based software and an Ethernet network? This Home Network Adapter is exactly what you need! It can control IR and Serial Devices. For models that support relay inputs, please see the RS232 / 3 IR IP Gateway.
Unfortunately, most household devices such as TVs and stereos can't communicate over networks. Top-to-bottom proprietary systems can control household devices, but are extremely expensive and require specialized dealer training for installation. Recently, more affordable home control and automation software, based on open systems and standards has become available.
Even with the latest-generation home control software, you still needed to use a hodge-podge of adapters and devices, which can be not only expensive, but also complex. But this Home Network Adapter replaces those various solutions with one easy-to-use, cost-effective product.

Rating Very useful device. I use it on a mac network, accessing it via socat (installed via darwin ports) wrapped up in an Applescript GUI. This works equally well under Ubuntu with a Python-based GUI. Access to a windows box is required to capture IR commands using GC's IR Learner.

Rating I've installed DOZENs of these GC100 controllers in classroom control of projectors, DVD/VCR, screens, lighting, Document Cameras, and other AV equipment, and they work fine. Global Cache provides open API, IR learner support, and diagnostic tools for the technically inclined, but they are easily programmed with HSA with GC plugin, or several other programs. I've used Crestron, Extron, and Dukane ConVA software, and Crestron is by far the most difficult to adapt to non-Crestron brand products, so take that into consideration as you read the comments from the Crestron user.

Rating Michael - I don't know what your problem was, but I just bought my first one, and within a half an hour I had the module loaded in my crestron program and i am controlling my integra reciever with RS232 perfectly over my home network from my Crestron MP2E in another location. Works great and is an inexpensive option over the cnxrmc. Let me know if you need help programming yours after you fire your crestron programmer. :

Rating I purchased a GC-100 to control my A/V stack via my MainLobby Server, and it works great! Setup was easy, and the integration was quite simple. You can see what I've done by following the project at http://myiphonehome.com

Rating This is an excellent product that does exactly as it claims. It does take a fair amount of programming work to get it to actually do something. But along with that work comes a great deal of programatic flexibility which is exactly why I brought the product. At it's basic level it gives someone with a modicum of programming skill the ability to control equipment with whatever hardware and software mixture they desire. For custom solutions it's the perfect product.

Rating This item appeared to have great promise for use in home automation application with Crestron....until I got it and we tried to program it. I wasted several hours of time using a certified Crestron programmer and we still could not get the devise to work as described. I am sure that it would work if a person is willing to spend a lot of money and time working with it. But for me ....I should have (and ultilmately did) just bought a Crestron Room control box that interfaces seemlessly with my other Crestron stuff. Global Cashe' was once slatted to be the worlds Crestron killer...offering simimlar functionality for lots less cost for the hardware. They should spend more time on program instructions and IT support. I wouldn't waste time with this item.
