I own two of the Y-cam outdoor cameras and one indoor model. Hardwired connections to the cameras work fine, but I had some trouble setting up Wi-Fi connections. Here is some further info from the HomeMonitor support group about setting up wireless connections, which I don't believe appears in any of their promotional materials or installation manuals:
The first factor to consider is the camera’s distance from the router. Due to signal strength and bandwidth requirements, we normally recommend placing the camera no further than 10 metres away from your router; closer if there are obstacles in the way such as walls, floors or ceilings; further if the camera and router have direct line of sight of one another. If you want to use your HomeMonitor outside of this range, this is not a problem. In this case we would suggest using an Ethernet connection, installing a Wi-Fi signal extender or repeater, or using a HomePlug.
Next it would be worth checking whether your camera has enough bandwidth available to retain a connection. If you complete a speed test at www.speedtest.net on a Wi-Fi connected device whether laptop, tablet or smartphone in the vicinity of your camera, this will give us a better indication of how much bandwidth your camera has available to make a connection. Your camera will need a minimum upload speed of 0.25 Mbps to retain a connection – as you have two other cameras, your network will need a minimum upload speed of 1 Mbps to keep all the cameras connected.
Another reason you may be struggling to retain a wireless connection might be due to your wireless settings – by tweaking these, we might be able to improve your camera’s performance. You will find that Wi-Fi will work best using WPA and WPA2 security, AES encryption and a Wi-Fi channel of 1, 6 or 11. You may find your connection more reliable by configuring these particular options in your router settings – we have found that WEP is particularly troublesome when sending high amounts of video over Wi-Fi.
