Non Compatible with INSTEON® I/O Linc Low Voltage / Contact Closure 2450 Review by David

I tried to set this sensor up to detect the level of waste water in the sewer ejection pump tank.
The sensor was placed above the level where the pump turns on. If the pump failed the waste water level would reach the sensor before the tank overflowed. I connected the sensor to an INSTEON® I/O Linc Low Voltage / Contact Closure 2450. The output relay was wired to a to a 24 VAC shut off valve for the house water supply. The power supply used was the ELK ELK-TRG2440 LOW-VOLTAGE HEAVY-DUTY 24V AC POWER SUPPLY / TRANSFORMER. After following manufacturers wiring specs, the manual test showed upon closure of the out put, the relay valve did shut off. However the upon closure of the I/O Linc sensor input, t the out put relay did not trip, even thought the I/O Linc sensor status light was green., I obtained a wiring spec for the WLS WATER LEVEL SENSOR and discover the voltage required to cross WLS's sensor's resistor in the circuit is 12 V, the I/O Linc sensor contacts are only 5 Volts @ 10mA. I solved the problem by ditching the WLS WATER LEVEL SENSOR and replacing with a vertical float switch level sensor (just a contact closure sensor) in the tank.

    FYI
the 3/4 water valve was the 3/4" 24V AC Electric Solenoid Valve N/O
    NOB34-24VAC [email protected]

Any float switch sensor can be used, I use vertically mounted Madison M8000 Plastic Full Size Miniature Liquid Level Float Switch with Polypropylene Stem, 30 VA SPST, 1/8" NPT Male. I mounted the sensor through the top of the tank with a 1/2 " pc pipe with with 1/2' female threaded adapter glue to the end of the pipe. The 1/2'' thread was reduce to female 1/8" NPT with a couple of brass couplings.

The sensors height in the tank pipe could easily be adjusted by movement of the pvc pipe inserted through a 3/4" grommet ( hole size drilled at top of tank specified by grommet specs).

I chose 24 VAC products since 12 to 24 Volt DC power supplies and solenoid valves were more expensive.

And finally my smart home is mostly insteon devices controlled by INDIGO DOMOTICS INDM60P INDIGO 6 PRO INSTEON COMPATIBLE SOFTWARE

Needs a relay circuit built/attached before use with Elk M1 Review by Bill

No mention in the descriptions that this does not actually have relay contacts. It arrived with a schematic for the user to build a board to amplify the sensor output and drive a relay. While I can do that, this 1 hour project turned into ordering parts from Mouser Electronics, building/debugging a circuit board, mounting the circuit board as well as the sensor... I'm glad to hear it connects to directly to some devices, as mentioned in a few reviews.

I bought this basic sensor to use with my Elk M1G. The sensor itself looks decent enough but there is no documentation that I can find on how to hook it up to an Elk zone.

I bought this to operate a fill system for a water storage tank. Fiddled with it for 2 weeks before I took the sensor to a glass of water in the house. Dipped it in the water and the light illuminates but did not trigger the I/O Linc sensor interface. Hope people do not buy this expecting they will be protected from a flood situation only to find out it didn't work.

Hooked it up to a Trigger Linc - Works well, but recommend attaching metal feet to the terminals small piece of copper to help ensure good connectivity. Lead wire could be a bit longer and slightly larger gauge

Great product and works as expected. The leads could be a lot longer but its not a big problem.

I have noticed that the pricing of this product has increased dramatically since I last purchased it a few months ago. I would suggest that SmartHome consider lowering the price back to where it was.

There isn't a lot to this device so the increased price is NOT reflective of the over all value.

Works well with the Triggerlinc. I will be using this as a water level trigger.
