If you've learned how to link INSTEON devices to be controlled by a SwitchLinc Dimmer, it is also important that you know how to undo any links that you no longer need.
Having too many orphaned links can slow down your system because the SwitchLinc will retry any commands intended for an unused INSTEON device.
In this video, we will show you how to unlink any controlled INSTEON device from a SwitchLinc Dimmer. So let's get started.
In this project, we will unlink a SwitchLinc from a LampLinc.
Currently, this SwitchLinc Dimmer controls that light.
It is also linked to that LampLinc which controls that lamp.
Let's say we no longer want the switch to control the lamp, so you will need to unlink the LampLinc from the SwitchLinc.
To set the SwitchLinc Dimmer to Unlinking mode, you must first set the SwitchLinc into linking mode by pressing and holding the ON paddle for 10 seconds until the top LED light in the LED bar begins blinking slowing and the local load -- the overhead light -- flashes.
Now, press and hold the paddle top again for 10 seconds until the light flashes once again. The SwitchLinc is now in Unlinking Mode.
To unlink most INSTEON device, press and hold the ON paddle for 10 seconds or press and hold the SET button for 3 seconds.
For the LampLinc, press and hold the SET button on the side of the module for 3 seconds until both light flash.
If the unlinking is successful, the top LED light on the LED bar on the SwitchLinc will no longer be blinking, but will remain steadily on.
Now we check to see if the unlinking is successful but turning the switch on and off. As you can see the switch no longer controls the LampLinc that controls that lamp.
And that is how you unlink a controlled INSTEON device from a SwitchLinc Dimmer.
