  • What's Included

  • The Stereo Audio Baluns are connected with the included tape to the structured cabling via a modular wall jack. Ideal for whole-house audio systems, the Stereo Audio Baluns transmit analog audio over inexpensive unshielded twisted pair cable, eliminating the need to run expensive speaker wire throughout your home.

Because they contain isolation transformers and utilize twisted cabling, baluns eliminate the ground loops that cause background hum and rolling interference. Baluns also extend transmission distances, passively transmitting audio and video signals up to 2500 feet. In addition to these Stereo Audio Baluns, a wide variety of audio and video baluns is available and sold separately.

When I got it, the right channel didn't work. Turns out the magnet wire on one of the transformer wasn't even soldered to the pins on that transformer.

When it did work sort of, the pinout was not as specified. The left channel was pins 2&1 and the right channel was pins 3&6. In other words, the channels were swapped and the left channel polarity was backwards. It looks like they did this so they wouldn't have to spend 5 cents to have plated-through vias on their circuit board.

I'll have to do more tests to evaluate the signal quality. It looks like it's based on cheap laminated-core transformers.

Pros: lowest cost product on the market, probably as good as any other, and looks very nice on the outside.
