Get Notified When Someone is at Your Front Door
 |
Sometimes a doorbell just isn't enough. For example if you're listening to loud music or vacuuming, chances are, you're not going to hear the doorbell if someone rings it. In fact, if you're in a part of the house that's not near the doorbell chime unit, you may miss hearing it altogether. Fortunately, we offer fast, easy and affordable solutions. You can even be notified if someone knocks on your door!
 | | | Get Notified With a Lamp | |
One of the fastest, easiest and most affordable ways to get notified is with an existing lamp. Here's what you'll need:
To set this system up, simply follow these steps:
- Take the Wireless X10 Motion Sensor, insert 2 AA batteries (sold separately) and set the X10 address according to the steps in the instruction manual. The X10 address consists of a unit code (represented by numbers 1-16) and house code (represented by letters A-P). It doesn't matter which house code you choose, although we recommend not using house code "A," since that's the default house code and the most likely to experience stray signals.
- Mount the Wireless X10 Motion Sensor in any rain-protected location near the front door (perhaps under one of the eaves). Since it's battery operated, finding a place for it shouldn't be too difficult.
- Set the X10 house code of the X10 Transceiver Base by turning the code wheel with a small screwdriver or the side of a coin. Be sure to choose the same house code you used for the Wireless X10 Motion Sensor.
- Plug the X10 Transceiver Base into any indoor outlet within 100 feet of the Wireless X10 Motion Sensor.
- Plug the lamp into the X10 Transceiver Base and turn the switch to the ON position (the light won't actually turn on until it's signaled by the Wireless X10 Motion Sensor).
Now when the X10 Wireless Motion Sensor detects motion, the lamp will turn on. You can adjust the length of time that the light stays on after motion has been detected (between one and 256 minutes). Check the Wireless X10 Motion Sensor Instruction Manual for instructions.
 | | | Get Notified With a Plug-In Chime | |
 | You can also be signaled with an X10 Chime Module that you can plug into any outlet in the house, even if it's further than the 100-foot wireless range.
To set it up, use a small screwdriver to set the X10 address of the X10 Chime Module to the identical X10 address you assigned the X10 Wireless Motion Sensor. Then plug the X10 Chime Module into any outlet in the house.
Now when someone approaches the door, you'll be signaled with a pleasant chime sound, whether they press the doorbell or not.
 | | | Be Alerted When Someone Knocks | |
If hearing the doorbell can be difficult, hearing a soft rap at your door can be almost impossible if you're not right next to it. But with the Wireless Door Knock Chime, you'll never miss a visitor. Mount the unit's intelligent sonic sensor on the inside of your door with the included hardware, and set the sensor's transmitter and the receiver to the same address. The sensor is activated by a knock-knock sound, immediately sending an alert up to 100 feet away to the lightweight receiver, which will chime to announce your guest. You can even put two receivers on opposite ends of the house to ensure that you'll never miss an important delivery or visitor again.
Three C batteries are required but sold separately.
 | | | When You're Ready to Expand | |
If you're ready to expand at a later date, you can integrate several other features into your system. For example, you can set up a surveillance camera that automatically shows up on your TV. To see how, see Watch Your Holiday Guests Arrive ... On Your TV Screen!.
