SmartLinc is an affordable and flexible web-based controller perfect for controlling light bulbs, wall switches, lamps or appliances, thermostat and many more INSTEON devices. SmartLinc integrates INSTEON technology with any web-enabled device, allowing you to setup and control INSTEON devices from inside your home, in the backyard, at work, in the car or on vacation halfway around the world!

    Ideal At-Home Control
SmartLinc works in combination with your router and most mobile Wi-Fi or web-enabled devices to control INSTEON devices within your home. Setup only requires a few easy steps to identify your network IP address and then type it into your PC or mobile device. After setup has been completed, you can start linking INSTEON lights and appliances and creating scenes that will make home life more convenient and energy efficient.
    Requirements:
    •  Wi-Fi enabled phone or PDA
    •  Wi-Fi router
    •  PC connected to router

Note: The Linksys Router Model WRT610N Version 1 has been found to be incompatible with the Smartlinc. The more recent version WRT610N Version 2 is compatible with the SmartLinc.

    Away from Home Control
In much the same way as the At-Home setup works, while you are away from home you can access your INSTEON network using SmartLinc in conjunction with any internet connection or Wi-Fi hotspot.

This is actually a very robust product for it's price point. When I originally got it I was disappointed in what I thought was a very limited product, however once I started digging in I was able to do everything I needed by either using creative timers or custom controls.

It also handled an X10 device surprisingly well.

So far I haven't been able to get the Android version to work on my Droid RAZR. Putting in triggered commands for X10 is a little primitive. In order to get multiple device to execute on a single trigger, I need to add more scenes. This is really built for INSTEON only.

This is a nice replacement for the older 1132CU interface module, as long as you don't need complex programing for scenes, etc. The web-based screen works nicely thru a hardwired pc, and the ip capable app via an Android device give a nice flexibility for remote control of lighting. using it with x10 modules is a bit painful, as the instructions are a bit "rough" to work with, but once solved, the results are satisfying. I would recommend this module as a replacement to the 1132CU anytime.

Great piece of tech. I appreciate the software upgrades in this latest version. It does deliver the claimed features. What I don't appreciate is the fact that I've had replace this unit twice in the last few years. Both previous units failed for no apparent reason.

Works pretty well. The interface is confusing at first. I had to address the system ip address directly. It is probably not (yet) a system those with limited network knowledge. Dynamic ip addressing can cause the controller to be "lost" if the DCHP server re-enumerates the network differently. They recommend static ip addresses as a stable workaround. That is probably a good idea, but a pain. Seems like they are just about there with a stable system, maybe a future firmware upgrade will bring the system up a notch. Consider it a "beta" release. Have fun, but expect some frustration....

Currently working only with X10 devices.

When controlled from Computer with HouseLinc software from windows, the SmartLinc 2412n is very quick to respond.

X10 Scenes programmed in HouseLinc can not be uploaded to the SmartLinc controller from what I can tell.

The SmartLinc only allows for one WebCam URL per room, so can only work with internal or external network to view camera. You choose which to program

    I use android devices:

Nexus 7 tablet: Takes 5-15 seconds from tapping a command until X10 command is issued, 50% it drops the command. Local WiFi Network

HTC EVO 4G Smartphone: Takes 5-15 seconds from tapping a command until X10 command is issued, 50% it drops the command. Cellular network to Static IP DSL

The android devices won't log into the SmartLinc if a password is set. You just have to do a port forward and hope no one finds and controls your SmartLinc internet connected device.

X10 Commands have to be custom coded and programmed into the ON and OFF buttons in SmartLinc 2412c, Dim and Brighten buttons are not open to customization so you can not dim or brighten X10 devices from the web or android smartphone interface from the room/scene.

You really just have to buy the thing, spend a day with it to see if it's going to work for you.
