Deter Intruders with Insteon Automated Lighting

Simple Solution

Install an Insteon Motion Sensor to turn on a table
lamp that is connected to an Insteon Plug-In Module.

Smart Solution

Add an Insteon Hub to send you alert notifications when motion is detected.
The motion sensor will activate the Insteon-controlled table lamp via the Insteon Hub. You can link the motion sensor and the plug-in module to the hub to create
a scene, this is a grouping of devices that work in unison. If you want to schedule
your lights to turn on at a certain time, you can do that with the Insteon Hub.

Step 1 - Link the Motion Sensor to the Lamp Module


Press and hold the motion sensor set button for 5 seconds.

This will put the motion sensor into linking mode.


Step 2 - Complete the linking process


Press and release the lamp module on button to turn the lamp on.

Press and hold the lamp module set button until it double beeps.


Smart Solution

Activate a table lamp using an Insteon Plug-In Lamp Module with an Insteon Motion Sensor,
while sending an alert to your smartphone from the Insteon Hub. Place the motion sensor in a location that covers the area that you want protected, but at the same time hides the motion sensor from being seen.

Step 1 - Add the Plug-In Module to the Hub


Log into the Insteon App and then navigate to Add a Device.

Scroll down until you see the Plug-In Module icon,
and click to add the plug-in module to the Insteon Hub.


Step 2 - Add the Motion Sensor to the Hub


Navigate back to the Add a Device screen.

Scroll down until you see the Motion Sensor icon,
and click to add the motion sensor to the Insteon Hub.


Step 3 - Set Motion Sensor Alerts


Under menu click Edit Devices and click on Motion Sensor.

Click Alerts, and then click on Message & Recipients
and set the notifications and then click Done.


Step 4 - Creating a Scene


Under the menu click on Create a Scene.

Select the motion sensor and the lamp module
and click Next, and click Done.

By using a scene this refers to usig multiple Insteon products together, this allows the motion sensor to activate the lamp module and at the same time when the motion sensor is triggered you will receive a push notification alerting you of the situation.

Step 5 - Creating a Schedule


Under menu click Edit Devices and click on Plug-In Module.

Click > next to schedule, set the schedule that you want
the light to come on at, and then click Save.

Scheduling your lights to turn on at a given time each day can be a powerful tool when you are on vacation. This can be accomplished with the Insteon Insteon Hub.
