Insteon Open/Close Sensor is a magnetic contact sensor that wirelessly controls lights and appliances throughout your house. When magnetic contact is broken, such as a door or window being opened, Open/Close Sensor can do things like turn on lights, set the thermostat to its comfort setting, or receive text message alert on your smartphone (requires Insteon Hub). Gain the peace of mind knowing that you'll be alerted when the back door sneaks ajar or the side window slides open. Useful for doors, windows, drawers, sheds, cabinets, and anything else that opens, Open/Close Sensor is a wireless, easy-to-use solution for adding convenience and awareness to any Insteon-controlled home. An AA battery is required and included.
How it works In the example illustration above, Open/Close Sensor is mounted to a door frame and the included magnet attaches to the door. When the magnet is separated from Open/Close Sensor (door opening) it sends a wireless RF signal to the nearest Access Point or other dual-band product (sold separately) which in turn relays the signal over your existing power wires to turn on linked devices such as lamps or wall switches. When the door is closed, Open/Close Sensor turns those same devices off. While at least 1 dual-band product is required when using an RF transmitter, at least 2 are recommended to ensure a reliable Insteon network. Please note that Insteon Wireless Open/Close Sensor (2843-222) is the new product name and number of TriggerLinc (2421). The product and functionality are the same.
Required Accessories For the best Insteon network performance, be sure you have properly installed at least two Access Point or other dual-band product.
How it Works Simply install a battery, adjust the settings (jumper) based on your application, link Open/Close Sensor to other device(s) on your Insteon network, and then it is ready for mounting. Open/Close Sensor has been pre-configured (default setting) to turn on a light (or other Insteon controlled device) when your door is opened (magnetic contact is open) and off when the door is closed (magnetic contact is closed). This default setting is great for doors, windows, garage doors, sheds or closets where you want the lights to turn on when the door is opened and you can be sure the lights are off when the door is closed. Open/Close Sensor's second setting allows for a more custom type of control: Turn on (or off) one set of lights or devices when the door is opened and turn on (or off) another set of devices when the door is closed. For example, this feature provides uses such as:
• Have lights turn on when you open the door, but leave them on when you close it
• Have lights turn on to full bright when you open the door, and dim them to 50% when the door is closed
• Plus many more Insteon Open/Close Sensor also contains an input for standard security sensors, so you can monitor many doors / windows from a single Open/Close Sensor.
