Smarthome Products Featured in Museum of Science and Industry's Smart Home: Green + Wired Exhibit

Irvine, CA - March 24, 2009 -- "Chicago's Greenest Home" is back, as Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry opened the newly redesigned Smart Home: Green + Wired, Powered by ComEd. The exhibit, which features home automation, surveillance and energy saving products from Smarthome, will run through January 3, 2010.

The 2,500-square-foot, fully functioning "green" home features smart technologies that focus on energy efficiency and home monitoring, low-VOC paints, recycled furnishings and eco-friendly energy sources-including photovoltaic film to collect solar energy and coming summer 2009, a wind turbine to harness one of the windy city's most abundant resources. Museum guests are able to take guided tours through the home every day and learn about the big and small ways that they can live a greener life, and a more tech-savvy one as well.

Among the smart technologies within the home are INSTEON Motion Sensors, which are being used to automatically turn off lights and appliances when no one is in a room, a Panasonic Wireless Network Camera to monitor activities in the nursery through a "Cribcast", and Kill-a-Watt Energy Monitors so exhibit visitors can see how much energy appliances are actually using.

"We're very happy to be a part of this Museum of Science and Industry exhibit," said Smarthome Vice President of Marketing, Laurie Maroni. "Exhibitions like this really open the eyes of visitors when they can observe and interact with technologies that are shaping our future. We're proud that the products we offer on our website and in our catalog are helping people make their homes safer and more energy efficient."

Smart Home: Green + Wired will be open at the Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry from March 19, 2009 through Jan. 3, 2010 and is proudly sponsored by ComEd, Dominick's and the Motorola Foundation. A timed-entry ticket is required, and tour times vary, so visit www.msichicago.org for more information or to purchase tickets.
