The grand prize winner will be able to select $1,000 worth of merchandise from the thousands of automation products and gadgets available from www.smarthome.com
"The possibilities are limited only by the applicant's imagination," said Rajeev Kapur, vice president of sales and marketing for Smarthome, Inc. based in Irvine, Calif. "Automating your home often starts with addressing a particular problem that causes you some inconvenience, such as turning off all the lights before you go to bed, feeding the cat while on vacation, or adjusting the thermostat during the middle of the night."
"Smarthome believes as automation becomes more simple, reliable and affordable, homeowners are seeing its real-world benefits," Kapur said. "That's why we are very interested in hearing from people on what part of their life they would like to see automated."
Kapur said ideas could involve remote and/or automated control of lighting, security, home entertainment systems, pool and spa, climate, pet care and more. It could also include new ways to entertain friends at home or more convenient ways to care for an elderly family member or infant, he said.
The second and third runners-up will receive Smarthome gift certificates for $500 and $250 respectively. SmarthomeDesign consultants, who advise homeowners on automating their home, will also advise the grand prize winner on how best to implement their solution.
Winners will be announced Sept. 15, 2004 and featured on the Smarthome Web site and in the Smarthome catalog.
