Smarthome Introduces The

Quietest Relay Switch on the Market

Smarthome combines quiet circuitry with scene-lighting

to create the new SwitchLinc Relay.
Irvine, CA, October 31, 2003: Smarthome, Inc. today announced a major advancement in lighting control with the SwitchLinc? Relay. Like standard relay wall switches, SwitchLinc Relay is perfect for automated control of fluorescent lights, electronic ballasts, halogen lamps and low-voltage lighting transformers. But SwitchLinc Relay improves on that concept by adding features from Smarthome's top-of-the-line SwitchLinc 2-Way family, including scene lighting. Yet the most noticeable difference of the SwitchLinc Relay is what consumers won't notice: the startlingly loud click associated with other brands of relay switches.     "One of the biggest problems consumers had with other brands of relay switches was the startlingly loud click you heard when you turned them on or off," says Joe Dada, CEO of Smarthome, Inc. "But SwitchLinc Relay is built with components that are 80% quieter, allowing consumers to remotely control light switches without waking up the baby or sending the cat fleeing to another room."      Like many of the switches in Smarthome's popular SwitchLinc product family, the 2-Way version of SwitchLinc Relay is also fully compatible with whole-house lighting scenes activated by a single X10 signal. For example, users can activate a "Movietime" scene that will dim all the lights in the house and turn on a ceiling fan controlled by a 2-Way SwitchLinc Relay. Or users can activate a "Relaxation" scene that will fill their home with ambient lighting, including the fluorescent light fixture controlled by the 2-Way SwitchLinc Relay.      "For years, automation enthusiasts have used relay wall switches to control non-dimming lights," adds Dan Cregg, vice president of engineering for Smarthome. "But to include that lighting circuit in a lighting scene, you needed an intelligent controller ... until now." The 2-Way SwitchLinc Relay can be a member of up to 64 scenes and uses standard X10 signals for scene control.      The SwitchLinc Relay is based on X10, the de facto standard in connecting automation devices in homes and businesses. X10 products send small data sequences containing information, including a product address and an action to perform, from a transmitter, such as a light switch, to a receiver, such as a lamp module, via the home's existing electrical wiring. Products utilizing X10 technology are popular in part because they are affordable, simple to install and do not require additional wiring.     Available now from Smarthome, the SwitchLinc Relay retails for $44.99 to $79.99, depending on the model.
