  • The USB Insteon PowerLinc Modem is a USB-based home automation interface that allows PC- and hardware-based automation controllers to control Insteon-compatible lights, appliances, heating/air conditioning systems and alarm systems directly via the Insteon network. The dual-band interface sends and receives both powerline and radio frequency (RF) Insteon signals, so it doubles as an Access Point. This makes it ideal for new Insteon installations if you have or plane to use an RF-only Insteon-compatible remote, thermostat, motion sensor and contact sensor. The RF signal can bypass electrical noise or attenuation near the PC and it pulls many of the "distant" Insteon devices one hop closer, which can expand the size of potential installations into even larger homes and commercial buildings.

    New features:

    • Built-in Dual-Band with RF function, acts like an Access Point for phase bridging and RF to/from power line
    • 1023 links (compared to around 800 links previously)
    • Added a beep sounder
    • Red/Green LED light
    • Supports faster reading and writing of the PLM's database by another controller
    • Much lighter weight
    • No pass-through outlet

Please Note: The controller connected to the USB Insteon PowerLinc Modem must remain powered on and running the controller program connected to the controller or host at all times of usage. Additionally, the dual-band interface does not supply power to external devices.

    Dead Again Review by Speed
    Dead Again

On my third unit. As others have stated, they only last about 3 years before they go dark.

Works fine until it doesn't Review by Maurice
    Works fine until it doesn't

Lifetime is limited. This modem works fine, until it just stops. I've had them last between 1 and 3 years. There is no excuse for such failure-prone design.

Thank you James for the update to Houselinc 2.10.25 Devices.XML Review by therealkennewickman
Thank you James for the update to Houselinc 2.10.25 Devices.XML

Was just about to toss my system into the trash. My last 2412N failed and apparently there are no more to buy. Grudingly reverted to this 2413U and it doesn't work unless the revision you provided is manually edited in. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have modules that go all the way back to Stanley Lightmaker and PowerHouse. You are a prince. Thanks again.

    Unreliable Review by rpw

As several other reviewers have noted, these are the weak link in the Insteon system; they fail repeatedly (just go completely dead). I'm on my third at this point. Frustrating.

Another failed unit Review by *fail*
    Another failed unit

I too recently had a unit that failed at just over 2 years but I am left without an option other than buying it yet again.

    ugg.. again? Review by Chris
    ugg.. again?

Had another one of these fail on me. The prior one lasted a few years, but this one is right about 1 year. What a piece of junk. PLM is plugged into a good surge protector. I also have a whole-house surge protector and every other connected device in the home is fine.. sick of throwing money away on these things that they REFUSE to improve, yet it's the weak-link in a significant investment into dozens of Insteon devices.

    2413U Review by red

this device is very unreliable, They fail every 4 years or so. This is the weak point in the instion system. They really should design a reliable unit.

    HouseLinc Review by James

To get this to work with HouseLinc version 2.10.25, you need to add a line of coding to HouseLinc's devices.xml file in the SmartLab folder. Look for the 2413u section under devices and under gateway. add this line to coding after the last revision.

    Review of 2413u

Works as advertised and so far, about a month in, without a hitch. Easily connected to an iMac running Indigo software and replaced a PowerLinc 1132U with minimal effort.
