Lots of useful information on creating your Smarthome, not just Insteon, but compares with other systems/technologies.

The book is very informative in a conversational sort of way. The author does a good job of going over wiring changes involved in converting an existing home to Insteon and explaining Insteon. What is lacking is an explanation of dual mode installations, how to most effectively manage RF and line Insteon control to make an effective mesh network. In addition, the book could use a workover by a professional editor to catch typos and grammatical mistakes. I would also like to see more information on designing and implementing scenes.
All-in-all it is a good intro book but "power users" are going to be looking for more.

Very basic information, does not go very deep into trouble shooting or more complex installations and not includes anything about UD ISY devices

While my motivation for buying this book might be different from most people; I bought it because I was looking for a business opportunity as opposed to a DIY/homeowner. Nonetheless, this is a very well thought-out book. It is written in a very easy-to-read style but still manages to convey concepts that are somewhat complex. Mr Strebe covers all the bases and compares Insteon to competing technologies, which is VERY important when considering any kind of major technological commitment. I would very much recommend this book for anyone looking at home automation for either business or home improvement.
