    HUB Setup Review by Essen
    HUB Setup

I thought that setup of HUB does not require an internet. And so i end up putting this project on hold until i get the internet throught modem and a router.

Im worried if, after adding up all the devices. Can it still be controlled using WI-Fi thru phone without the internet?

    Smart Hub Review by Todd
    Smart Hub

Pros: Easy to set up, pretty much plug and play. The smartphone app immediately found the hub and walked me through the setup. No problems finding the first device I installed. This is in contrast to the HouseLinc software, which was problematic to install as a service and required constant updates to find devices (if it could find them at all). The Smart Hub also automatically and reliably recovers from power outages. HouseLinc, while it can be set to start as a service, does not always restart successfully. In addition, HouseLinc crashes. While not frequently, it can be a pain.

Cons: Very limited control of lighting devices. It's on, off, dim. An on time, off time and days of the week these times are utilized. This is different than options available within HouseLinc. HouseLinc allows for + or - for time, i.e. 20 before sundown. HouseLinc allows for a randomization of times within a given range, i.e. turn on (or off) + or - 35 minutes at 10:00pm. This means the device will come on or off anywhere between 9:25pm and 10:35pm. This gives a better sense that someone may be home. Better from a security standpoint. HouseLinc also allows for triggers, i.e. when a smart keyfob button is pushed, do something. The Smart Hub does not. Everything seems to be purely time based.

To be fair, you can configure the Smart Hub using HouseLinc. I have not done that and don't know if it gives you more configuration options. I'm a Mac and iPhone household, so the HouseLinc option is not available to me to find out.

Works and Doesn't Work Review by Ron
    Works and Doesn't Work

The unit is reasonably priced and not too hard to set up. The individual switched/controllers work perfectly when activating them manually. The same can be said when it comes to scenes. But, when trying to activate devices and, in particularly, scenes using a timer, the reliability drops dramatically. The problems seem worse with scenes and whenever a schedule doesn't run for all 7 days in a week.

Not being able to program an offset to sunrise and sunset or vary on/off times with a random offset is a limitation.

Hub number 2 Review by Dream of X-10 return
    Hub number 2

On hub number 2, first one managed two years before it just stopped working. Bought the second one a few months back, now the perpetually slaved PC with Houselinc no longer connects. IPhone app still works but Houselinc does not. Scenes set on phone app have lights turning on and off all day long at random times. The impossible to set up motion detector was smashed to bits with a hammer. The rest of this crap is getting pitched into the bin. Pure crap.

Software on older Android versions does not work Review by Chip
Software on older Android versions does not work

Bought a hub last week and was able to install app on both my tablet and smartphone but the tablet version cannot connect. Just shows an error dialog "An unknown error has occurred".

Tablet is 4.0.4 (API Level 15) and the smartphone is 4.4.2 (API Level 19). The first run of the app on the smartphone asked for it to update (and I did). All runs of the app on the result in the error dialog when I enter my credentials and press the 'Connect' button.

Review of 2242-222 Review by GERALD
    Review of 2242-222

initial install was easy... however...5 months later the network port on the hub failed! This means that when you get a replacement you have to FACTORY RESET EVERY DEVICE YOU INSTALLED AND RE-ADD THEM BACK TO THE NEW HUB!!! You also have to recreate all of your themes, schedules and send an email to smarthome requesting they delete your account in order to allow you to create a new account for the replacement hub. This could all be EASILY AVOIDED if there was an option to BACKUP your settings and restore them. because this is a MAJOR oversight on Insteons part and NOW a major pain for me i only give this device 1 star.

Very primitive and limited capabilities. GUI is limited and user-hostile.

    Review of 2242-222

The app did not work on my Windows 8 desktop (the app crashes as soon as it is started). I opened a ticket over 2 weeks ago. No one has called. The app on my android phone works fine. This hub does not appear to support old Insteon devices or controllers, so the buttons on a Keypad Link cannot be programmed. Also houselink programming does not transfer over.

    Review of 2242-222

Excellent product for controlling all the wireless devices. However, the limitation of the hub is the distance. I hope insteon is considering manufacture a 240 volt extender and access point for Asia consumers.
    Overall great product!

I have it working similarly to the previous controller using URL commands to turn devices on and off. Much improved method for querying device state.
