Home Control and Automation Turn Your Home into a Smart Home
You are surrounded by amazing advancements in technologies and services that have revolutionized interaction with family, friends, business and entertainment. But what about the interaction with one of the largest investments you have: your home? What if you could turn on the lights, close the garage door, and lock the front door all from the master bedroom, the office downtown or while travelling in another country. The technology to do this is available today and it's more affordable and easier to install than you think.
Choosing the Right Path
There are many different technologies to choose from when it comes to controlling your home but they fall under two main categories:
Hardwired solutions require specialized companies to rewire your home using low voltage wiring and a small team of installers and programmers. Prices can easily reach hundreds of thousands of dollars. While we have nothing against these solutions, it is our stand that a smart home shouldn't be beyond the reach of the general public, not just reserved for the elite.
Wireless solutions can easily be added to your home and communicate using either RF (radio frequency) or over your existing power lines (the electrical wiring in the home). There are a number of different wireless technologies to choose from. Just like hardwired solutions, some require specialized companies for installation (such as Control4, RadioRA). Prices for these types of systems can easily become out of reach for the average home. Because of this, we'll be focusing only on the wireless technologies that can be purchased and installed by the average do-it-yourselfer. These solutions start for less than $100.
We offer the most popular DIY home control technologies on the market: INSTEON, X10, UPB and Z-wave. Each technology has something to offer, whether in product design, cost or features.
