HI,
I'm new to Insteon and just received my new Insteon Hub along with an Insteon Led Bulb. I'm not able to link the Bulb with the HUB using the App on my iPAD. I'm selecting the option of adding a LED Buld on the App and after replacing my regular bulb with the LED Bulb the HUB seems to find the Bulb because it starts a noise twice and starts blinking. But after 20 seconds the apps says that is unable to find the Bulb. Do I need any additional hardware?
Thanks in advance. |

| Some have given reports that suggest the RF range of the bulb is quite limited. How close is your hub to the bulb? |

'm a new user also.
The problem is likely that the hub is installed on the opposite leg from the led bulb. The hub is not a duel communication device, my understanding it is a patent issue.
It is important to get both legs to have communication. In my opinion, this is properly done by installation of the phase coupler, P/N 2406H into your breaker box. Not hard, but be prepared to shut off home power if you are able. Or get qualified help.
Another approach and the way I've done mine is to use a duel communication device on both legs, like a repeater. The on/off switch and dimmer switch also will accomplish getting communication on both phases.
Once both phases are communicating, my installed LED bulbs are working well, on / off at sunset and sunrise.
Hope this helps.

| According the the manual, the hub includes "insteon RF mesh repeater". The web sales page makes no mention of RF or dual band. I am not sure which is accurate (manual or web page). |

Actually the Hub and LED Buld are on the same room, not more than 15 feet.

Talking to Insteon tech support they told me today that the HUB is only powerline, no RF.

| Similar names definitely cause confusion. The Insteon Hub (the flat box with a power cord) has built-in RF capability; the SmartLinc Hub (the module that has power prongs and plugs into an outlet, no power cord involved) communicates via power line signals and relies on a nearby dual-band device to repeat signals on RF. |

| "Smartlinc Hub"??? I don't see such a device on the smarthome web page. Is the 2412N now called the Smartlinc HUB? |

Let's take their word for it, then. To follow up with jlyssy's line of questions, do you have a means to bridge the communication gap between the two legs of your electrical system. This could the the hard-wired solution he suggested, or a couple of access points, or any two dual-band devices confirmed (via method in user manual) on opposite legs (perhaps also described as "phases"). |
