The BarkSmart and BarkSmart Deluxe bark deterent devices will effectively and humanely control excessive dog barking. These products work and are very popular. Contol your own dogs, or your neighbor's without them knowing.

If you have a dog, especially a neighbor's dog that you cannot put a "quiet collar" on, Barksmart is the ultimate in keeping a dog quiet. My neighbor's dog now only barks when there is truly a reason to bark.

Our experience is that some bark deterrents work sometimes. It really depends on the dog. For example, we had one neighbor's dog that barked for a good 10 min after someone passed by. No deterrent worked, not even a squirt of water. Well,it did give the dog pause, but only for a moment.

The most effective device we used was not automatic, but required that we push a button to emit a high pitched sound. Over time we lost it (well, I did, my spouse did not have the heart to use it). Perhaps a reader knows about this hand-held device.

If I do find it, I'll certainly re-post.

BTW, 2 dogs, 3 cats, a casual skunk, and, lately, a young raccoon that likes to (gently) reach for food from my hand

Oh, about our neighbor's dog. We are animal people and we like our neighbor, so we all patiently waited and worked with the dog.

I realize that that's not always possible. If the dog is incessant, a call to the local ASPCA or animal regulation agency will give you advice.

There are various devices which are helpful in controlling excessive barking of dogs. Is there any natural way to limit the barking of dogs without creating any problem for them?

Do you mean a problem from your point of view or the dog's? For example, giving a dog a bath, saying "no," and housebreaking are not natural.

Do you mean training the dog to not bark? It is your dog or another's?

I am saying that we should provide him training to not to bark but it can be possible that we trained him that he will bark only for some specific reason like seems some unknown and such other activity.
Is this not possible?

Yes, absolutely. It requires altering the natural behavior of the dog. Suppressing barking is easy. Making barking situation specific is not and requires reshaping the dog's natural reactions into predetermined responses.

For example, you can train your dog to sit when you raise your left hand or roll over when you wave your right hand. But first, you need to be able to teach the dog to sit or roll over.

Teach the dog to bark. Encourage barking. Reward the dog when it barks. Teach the dog to not bark. Discourage barking. Admonish the dog when it barks. Create situations that encourage the former. Create situations that encourage the latter.

Carefully follow the dog's responses. Take advantage of those that advance the goal. Disregard the others, don't disparage the dog.

Even more.

These are all things which we can easily perform to train our doggy, but it needs more attention to the Pet by which he can learn more aggressively.
