I have failed countless times trying to get the Insteon Garage Linc to control my Genie garage motor. I even called technical support from smarthome and still was unable to solve my problems. I have tried a couple of scenarios that I have listed below;
Setup: ISY99i Garage Linc Genie Chainmax 1000
1. Insteon Garage Linc - (5v) & (GND) to Garage Motor - (BWT where the genie control wires into) ^ Recommended by the smarthome tech
2. Insteon Garage Linc - (N/O) & (COM) to Garage Motor - (BWT where the genie control wires into) ^Manual advised this wiring
3. Insteon Garage Linc - (N/O) & (N/C) to Garage Motor - (BWT where the genie control wires into)
After these attempts I am still unable to control my opener from the insteon control. Any suggestions or help would greatly be appreciated.
Option 1 could have damaged the control function. Hopefully the normal garage controller continues to operate the door. Option 3 served no purpose as the NO and NC never make contact.
The controller is a multi button device. Many simple garage door buttons simply short the two wires together. That is often an issue with a multi button controller as three buttons cannot be differentiated by simply shorting the two wires. Some folks have found that using a short I/O Linc relay momentary time (.5 seconds or less) will operate the door. If that does not work the Com and NO I/O Linc Relay connections should be connected internally to the multi button controller, making a parallel connection with the upper door open/close button.
I feared you might say that. I tried taking apart the multibutton control unit and looking at the board, but I am unable to figure out where to solder the connections. Maybe I can find a video on youtube or somewhat. Nothing is labeled on the circuit board.
Is there nothing behind the "open/close" button? Contacts? Wires? I think it would be here that you would connect the IOLinc.
Looking at the manual for your opener, it appears to me also that LeeG got it right. There are three buttons: light, lock, and open. Somehow, this works over two wires. It seems to me that there is more to this button than a simple contact.
thank you both for taking the time to respond as I greatly appreciate it. I will pst a picture on here later today or tomorrow so maybe you could help me identify the two points of contact. I took it apart but was unable to figure it out.

I did mine today... take a paper clip or copper wire and touch two points on the control board. I believe one was 7 and the other was the one directly to the right and one down. It will shut the garage door, then you know these are the two points to solder.
if you take a picture, I will can circle the two points for you.
Thank you so much for the offer. I have been very busy and finally got around to this project again. I have taken pictures of the back and front for you to hopefully show me how to get it to work. THANK you so much ahead of time!
