I bought and installed two Smarthome IP Cameras and am very happy with them. I see that there are firmware updates one for b/g/n wi-fi and one for b/g wi-fi. Do you know if that refers to the router which is b/g/n or the camera, on which there is no designation of what it's to be used with. Since it works with the b/g/n router I would assume I'd use that update, however, if it refers to something on the camera I'd prefer to check first.

Unless the firmware update brings peace to the Middle East or feeds the starving multitudes, I'd give it a pass.

Seriously though, do the firmware release notes mention any "must have" new features or bug fixes?

If your cameras are working fine with the current firmware, it is unlikely you need to update it.

Which update you select depends on the camera, not the router.
