I've just installed a brown KPL in my home theater. I was a little surprised to find that the legend on the buttons are not illuminated by the backlighting LED. Are there any brown KPL buttons that will allow the legends to be illuminated, or is this only available with the lighter colored buttons?
Thanks,
Andy

From the sale page: * Please note that at this time Black and Brown buttons completely block the light from the LED indicators. Gray buttons allow only enough light to be seen in a darkened room. It is recommended that you use these colors only in locations where the lights/appliances you are controlling are visible from the controlling keypad.
No button, including lighter colors, allows light through the legend.

| Thanks! I missed that part, obviously! I'm going to have to try and figure something out that looks good. Maybe I can use white buttons with the yellow diffuser kit. |

I've tried to figure out some color solutions and have accomplished some, but not all of the designer impulse. Blue diffusers behind a dimmed KPL appear gray, green is green, red is red, and yellow is a good brown compromise - if the LEDs are dimmed.
But the legend is always opaque. |

| I've been trying to figure out a way of making the buttons myself. The closest I think I can get is if I get a set of blank white buttons and spray them brown, but somehow get template to cover the buttons where the legend will be. That is much easier said than done. |

As would be manufacturing them. There is no doubt the technology exists. What is costly is individualization as opposed to mass production. It's not as simple as etching and painting. The button would have to have a color coating of ? mil thickness over a clear button. The bottom edges of the etch may not be as delineated as the top. I don't know how that would affect a "see-through" button.
Given that, I'd buy brown see-through buttons as soon as they were available. I'd also use a yellow diffuser behind them and probably illuminate the LEDs to 40% or 50% |
