I have the garage io linc and a 6 button keypad link. The D button is set to control the io linc. Whenever the garage is open either by the D button or garage door button status light D is on and stay on till garage closes. That works great, what I am trying to do is show the open or close status. in the garage scene the status device id is set to the D button id(got that by holding down the D button and waiting for its address.) Inserted the Id in the garage field and saved. Garage is open and it still shows off status but D button is lit.

thx drew

Are you referring to SmartLinc or something else?

If you are asking about the SmartLinc, this should explain it: http://www.smarthome.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10187

i am using smartlinc, tht link was no help. I am trying to link the device status of the garage to the keypad so that when the D button is illuminated it shows in the garage scene and status displays correctly.

The SmartLinc's built-in web pages keep things simple. Each SmartLinc scene can show the on/off state of a single responder status device by highlighting Off if the device is Off or highlighting On if the responder device is not off. The SmartLinc's built-in web pages don't do anything fancy or complicated--they don't display dimmer levels or tell you what other devices in the scene are doing or display any history or show the states of any sensors.

Keeping that in mind, if you want to see what a sensor is doing from a web-enabled appliance, you can 1) link a sensor to a different responder device, then use that other responder device as the SmartLinc scene's Status, 2) use more sophisticated mobile phone software like the MobiLinc app for iOS or Android that can query and display the status of a Sensor directly, or 3) use a more sophisticated interface like an ISY instead of the SmartLinc.

The person who started that other thread was using an iOS device so he could use MobiLinc. Are you using an iOS or Android device to access the SmartLinc, or are you using Internet Explorer or some other browser on a laptop or desktop PC?

The easiest solution is to link the D button as both a controller and responder of the I/O Linc.

However, the button can get out-of-sync with the garage door. To prevent that, use Momentary A (instead of C) and set the button to send On only (instead of toggle).

Will setting it to momentary A change the rest of the buttons or can I just change a specific button?

The I/O Linc (or any controller for that matter) has no knowledge of what it's linked to as a controller nor the state of that responder except for the Insteon ID. Setting the I/O Linc to Momentary A (or B or C or even latching) is independent of how a button is set.

The same is true of a responder which is only aware of the Inseton ID of its controller, not what the controller is or how it's set (e.g., toggle, on-only, or off-only).

My suggestion allows the same button on a KPL to act as both controller of and responder to the I/O Linc while ensuring that button's LED is synchronized to the state of the I/O Linc sensor. I make no claim that it is the only method, only that it works.

I tried to link the kpl as a responder but i must be doing it wrong. I hold "d" till it beeps then press and hold the io linc till it beeps. In the garage scene I enter in the "D" device id (I got that by doing a test scene adding button and getting id from there). Garage opens and button says lit till its closed. In the web interface it still shows off? What am i doing wrong?

Thnx drew

"I tried to link the kpl as a responder but i must be doing it wrong. I hold "d" till it beeps then press and hold the io linc till it beeps."

The sequence is backward to link the KeypadLinc as a Responder. Starting with the KeypadLinc makes it the Controller. The first device put into linking mode is always the Controller. Put the I/O Linc into linking mode first, then the KeypadLinc button to be the Responder.

keypad already controls the io linc. and the status led lights when door is open. So all I have to do is press io linc then the kpl button to set. Am I right on the device ID
(kpl button)
