I saw this item http://www.smarthome.com/70285/FortrezZ-SSA2-Siren-Strobe-Alarm-Module/p.aspx which is for Z-Wave. Is there a similar item that I can use for my Insteon/Indigo setup to alert me when a security breach has occurred?

Not as an all-in-one unit, but you can attach any siren or strobe you want to an ApplianceLinc or an IOLinc.

The real trouble with using either ZWave or Insteon to control security gear is that, unlike real security solutions that have supervision and low-voltage battery backup, the HA gear won't function if someone simply shuts off the power.

I guess that makes sense that one can do it that way.

I guess maybe an all-in-one unit might be a good thing to make anyway?

Thanks for the help.

Wireless sirens are specific for security systems, they are not generic. Just having Z-Wave capability is not enough. The Z-Wave siren requires a Z-Wave compatible security system.

Insteon does not have a security system. That's why there is no matching siren. But Elk security systems are Insteon compatible and wireless sirens are available for that.
