A RemoteLinc or RemoteLinc 2 is an RF device and does not require line-of-sight.
Some IR hand-held devices (e.g., Harmony, URC) also have RF control, but they're not Insteon RF compatible.
Another solution is to place an Insteon IR receiver within line-of sight of the Harmony, Urc, or other IR remote's transceiver. |

| I believe your best solution, given that you want to use a harmony or URC remote, is stusviews last suggestion...choose the RF version remote with base station. From there use the insteon IRLinc device to recieve IR codes from the base station to control your insteon system. This approach has worked well for me. |

First check the sales pages for the Insteon Devices you are interested in to verify X10 support. Smartlabs is slowly eliminating X10 support in newer hardware revision modules.
Simplehomenet make a EZX10RF module. It tranceives all 256 X10 Address to the power line and can map an X10 Address to an Insteon module or scene. http://www.simplehomenet.com/proddetail.asp?prod=9357342313 |

The Insteon dual-band switchlincs do not receive wireless X10 signals. They may receive X10 signals over the powerline (depending on the version, as BLH mentioned). That's why you would need something like the EZX10RF to convert the X10 rf signal to a powerline signal.
If you used that approach, it would add a small delay in the response time. Personally, I would use a RemoteLinc 2 instead.
If you want to use a Harmony remote, I don't think those send X10 RF directly in any case (I could be wrong?). The IRLinc (that Oberkc mentioned) would let you convert an IR signal from the remote to an Insteon signal that the SwitchLinc would hear.
