I'm trying to run my ceiling fan from a XPS3 switch. It worked for a number years, over the last three or four months it kind of got sporadic, to the point where it doesn't work at all now. I tried multiple switches, to see if it was the switch. It was not. There's a plug-in 2 feet below the switch that I tried an appliance module in, and it appears to work fine, and it is on the same breaker. I pretty much unplugged everything in the house to see if there's any interference, and it didn't change anything. Any suggestions.

It's possible that an older fan is now generating line noise. I've had success with a Leviton Noise Block in some situations.

A test would be to temporarily connect a different load to the switch. If it works, then the fan motor is probably the culprit.

You're probably right, but that's the last thing I wanted to hear. I guess it's time to upgrade my switches

It's unlikely for the fan to generate electrical noise - all fans I have seen use an induction motor. Mostly Papps type - with the external rotor. There are no brushes or slip rings there to cause sparking. You can quickly test it per stusview's suggestion. Stusview is probably right regarding the noise, but the culprit might be some electronic gadget recently plugged into a different outlet or a new gadget.

If something on the line is generating noise (or absorbing the signal), then upgrading may not help. You might want to locate the source first.

If you have a neutral in the switch box, trying a different load should be easy.
